Update | The Daz to Maya Bridge

November 2020 in Maya Discussion

Daz 3D is excited to share that we’ve made an update to the Daz to Maya Bridge!

This new update allows you to transfer animations from Maya into Daz 3D to continue to work on your project in Studio. That’s right — the Daz to Maya Bridge is no longer a single directional export! Now you can rig and retarget a skeleton in Maya and transfer that animation back into Studio.

This update also includes minor bug fixes that amend the following issues:

  • Weight Issues of Diffuse Map
  • Color Space on Texture Maps in Maya
  • Using the right node for Normal Maps and Bump Maps
  • Hair Opacity Map disconnection when converting to Arnold

These changes are in large part due to user feedback on how the bridge works for you, as well as desires for added functionality, so we thank you for using Daz Bridges and keeping us informed as to how Daz Bridges work for you.

The new Daz to Maya Bridge can be downloaded for FREE here.

    Thank you for the update!

Currently the bridge does not plug in normal and bump maps for the scene. Which does not bother me because I rarely use those - I only plug in the normal map if my scene us close-up and I need the additional details. For environments I rarely use these because I use environments as background props and they are often blurry so i don't need additional maps to keep the scene light. If there were an option for autoconvert that alliws you to decide whether you want the bump and displacement maps that would be cool for those who don't need them, because if you dont render close-ups or if the object is out of focus and you use dof, no need for adding additional map to your scene.

    Many thanks!  Super useful.

I notice when i try to bring a test animation from maya back over to Daz, I get an error that says "pose is not achieved".  The DUF that is created can not be opened in Daz.  My reading of the script log in maya suggests this has something to do with the IK settings in maya.  Maybe something I need to change, or set in a particular way before I can export the animation properly?  Hope I find a way to get this working soon.  I am a total noob with Maya.

Can you add support for multiple figures? I get an error when trying to export an animation with two figures in scene.

I noticed this same error appeared in the Daz Bridge tutorial on youtube.  He seemed to ignore it and proceeded.  Perhaps the error is inconsequential.   I suggest taking a look at the Daz3d youtube page.

You're right, it is inconsequential.  I just got it working.  My mistake was trying to open the DUF in an empty scene.  I needed to import the duf onto a character specifically.
