Very sad to hear this. I think she was the best female Avenger in the whole series.

Me too, watching in reruns in the US. I never even knew she was the Queen of Thorns, possibly my favorite character on GoT.

This year just keep wallowing in the suck. Still 100 some days left. What next? An actual alien invasion?

I had a crush on her too.

When I was a kid I wanted to be like John Steed and marry Emma Peel.

    ^__^

  • Al Bundy did too but I cannot find a youtube clip about him discussing her high kicks

just all his Married with Children insults

Yep, I was a wee lad, couldn't have been more than four and I had a crush on her... considering I hardly ever liked any celebrities, that's something.

It also could have been the leather outfit... I dunno.

Diana Rigg was my fave 'assistant' in the Avengers series!

She was also in one of my fave James Bond movies!  The only gal that became his 'actual' wife, that didn't involve a cover story anyways, but of course it didn't last... Neither did George Lazenby as Bond but I liked him!

RIP and thanks for the TV and movie memories!

I think she did that to a generation of schoolboys in the 60's - I was besotted with her. And the rest of her life proved she was much more than a pretty face and my regard for her remains fierce so this is particularly sad news.

  • Trust me, it wasn't just the school boys...

...when I was still earning good money working in multimedia devleopment, I saw that her white Lotus Elan S2 was up for sale for 52,000USD through DuPont's.  Was almost tempting.

Olenna Tyrell, the queen of Thorns, a very good character.

I met her a few times in the 1990's - not socially but because my dad was doing some work around her house - she made a lovely cup of tea.

Same here and even more so back in the period of black and white television, where they were a bit more adventurous with some of the episodes..  But yes it is sad to see her pass on, but she did have a great innings..

Oh it was, it was just sad to see that when the Avengers went to colour tv, they ditched the leather outfits.. sad I can only gather it was the cost of colour tv back then that was probably the reason.. wink

It's a a shame that the rumoured new story won't happen.

So true - even ASIDE from the pandemic, 2020 has sucked!

I loved watching her in "The Avengers" and her Bond role was extremely well done (made a LOT of the rest of the movies make sense really - Bond's inability to form a permanent attachment, his hatred of Blofeldt, etc.)... one of those performers I would have loved to have actually met as I imagine her as a really cool and decent person by all accounts I have heard.

... and don't kid about the alien stuff - both the U.S. AND the U.K. governments/ militaries have publicly admitted to UFO sightings/encounters now - and however much I may dislike Earth's politicians that does NOT mean I want to trade them for "What's Behind Door #2" (sight unseen)!!

Seriously as an old radar tech, UFO does not mean alien. It means what's on the label. Flyboys have good relfexes and eyesight but not the greatest brains. The stuff we picked up on radar that didn't behave like a plane was always a rock or a piece of space junk coming down. Some of the trash we leave in orbit is slighlt aerodynamic. That stuff can do some strange things at terminal velocity. Get a pair F-18's up at 10k feet chasing it and throwing jet wash around and some reflective piece of mylar suddenly becomes a space ship.

I'm sure some stuff recently was encounters with classified drone projects and the like as well. But actual aliens? The odds against that are so staggering its just not worth worrying about.

There are a bunch of reasons why aliens that are bound by the same physics we are will never be a threat and a bunch of even better reasons why any aliens who have beaten those phsyics will never feel the need to bother us.

Aliens, ghosts, gods, Loch Ness Monsters, Yeti, Bigfeet, all effects of the Wizard's First Rule.  No in-hand proof of any of it yet the believers persist as do the fraudsters and con men.

Mrs. Peel (to put this thread back on track) dealt with more than one of those fallacies.

    *sighs*

Oh, well... it was worth a try.

...add to the "suckatude" of 2020, the fires here on the west coast. Here in Oregon alone, we haven't seen this type of outbreak for 120 years. Over one million acres in the state are on fire and in some areas crews were forced to abandon attempts at containment on several of the large blazes including two threatening the eastern environs of Portland.

The last two days in the city have seen orange skies with no sunrise or sunset and thick choking smoke that has been getting worse.

Here's a pic of Downtown Portland I took today. Even in the recent big fire years of 2017and 2018 it wasn't this bad.
