Help with "Daz To Blender" / Not Showing Up

ben_roprimben_roprim Posts: 46
July 2020 edited July 2020 in Blender Discussion

So like with most Daz features, they have lots of issues upon release.

Along with bad tutorials that dont explain how to use and install it proper, especially for newer users.

Cause even I am stumped.

My issues is that while it's script shows upon Daz just fine, it does not show up on Blender.

As per the instructions given by the Daz Team, it should already be there upon installation in the "Addons" for Blender, which it is not upon seaching by keyword.

Here is a screenshot of it just fine on Daz: https://ibb.co/WGNQg0n

Here is a screenshot of it not there for Blender: https://ibb.co/0hDNzYq

Anyone got any suggestions for this issue?

Any help is always appreciated. :)

Go to DIM and look at where it installed the file, go there and then drag the zip file into the install window in Blender and it'll work.

What's the deal with nothing showing up on the blender side of the equation and nothing showing up in PublicBuildBeta at all?

There are a few threads with fixes, in short, go to dim installer, installed files tab, right click for context menu, and click "installed files,,," for the file location. The blender addon (a zip) is in there.

the bridge doesn't work in DAZ beta.

The Blender file browser doesn't show hidden folders by default (on Windows, dunno about iOS).  DIM installs the zip file for the Blender addon into a folder containing 'AppData' in the path; this folder is hidden and so you cannot browse to it via the Blender file browser.  You need to paste the path to the zip file into the location field at the top of the file browser in order to select it for installation.  I raised a support ticket about this, should have been picked up in testing and documented.

Once the addon installed, it shows up in Preferences->Addons, but you need to make sure it is enabled by checking the little checkbox at the top of the addon listing,to the left of the word 'Armature'.  If you don't do that, you won't get the DazToBlender tab shown at the right hand side of the viewport (hit N to get the panels to slide out if there are none showing.

You can browse to it... there's an option in the browsing window to see hidden folders.  It's not very prominant, though, and I had to find it by hovering over things because I had the same question, but it's there.

So, they did not realize something like this would happen? Did the team not research how or wherer this would be installed?

I had to copy the zip to another location and lo'n'behold it is working, and moderatly well too. Still has issues importing some materials but overall decent import.

Yeah, DAZ needs to make a sticky of this and update their video tutorial on YouTube. There are many steps missing with using the add-on in Blender.

Yes... I discovered this tiny little option to view hidden foldesr and files (and AppData is one of them) when I upgraded my from Blender 2.8 to 2.83.  Found the zip which needed to e installed for the bridge to work.

I can find the zip file no problem, install it... nope. Does anyone know how to actually install this thing on macOS? (the blender side)

Same. I have the same, it some how has unzipped them all and made a Directory called DTB and all the Python scripts are inside it.
It seems they have changed the directory structure and now I have no idea how to install the addon on Blender.

Ok, I've been doing some research and this what I found :

I know some of you aren't able to find the location of the Add-on. I think its because downloading the addon from Daz Central puts it in a different location and actually extracts the files in a different location. Here's what I did to solve it.

    First, go to C:\Users\username\appdata\Roaming\Blender Foundation\Blender\BLENDER_VERSION\scripts\addons\DTB

Move these files to C:\Users\esima\appdata\Roaming\Blender Foundation\Blender\2.91\scripts\addons\DTB

You may not see the DTB folder when moving the files, so just add the folder yourself and name DTB. Then, restart blender and go to preferences, addon and search DazToBlender. You will then see the addon. Restart Blender again and you will see the addon in the right corner as mentioned in the video. Thank you and enjoy. :)

I have the addon showing up fine in Blender, just nothing imports from daz using the script, ive uninstalled evertything and reinstalled close to 10 times, and installed on both the DIM thing as well as daz central, this is just insane.

*edit - my bad, didnt realize you had to seperately import from blender after exporting from daz.

I couldn't get it to work by typing in the address in my bar either (even making sure to change the user name). But, try this:

    1. Go to DIM and locate the files, click on them to open the file directory

    2. Back up one folder and copy the DTB folder

    3. Back up the folders until you see the folder with the Blender Versions.  (AppData/Roaming/Blender Foundation/ Blender)

    4. Go into the 2.92 folder> Scripts> Addons

    5. Paste the DBT folder

    6. Open Blender (new startup) and follow the tutorial that doesn't cover all this crap...

Ok guys I have Figured out the "Not being able to find or open the Daz To Blender Add on" in blender.

So i used daz central installed the Daz to Blender Add on or Daz to Blender Bridge what ever you want to call it. what happened to me was it installed to the wrong location.

    It installed to "C:\Users\PHNX\AppData\Roaming\Blender Foundation\Blender\BLENDER_VERSION\scripts\addons\DTB"

I copied everything in the DTB folder went back a few folders to "3.0" or the actual version you have installed.

Navigate to scripts addons CREATE a DTB folder and paste what you copied into that folder.

open blender go to add on's and the DazToBlender add on should now show up in blender hope this helps.

    Blender Version: 3.0

    Daz Version : 4.16 Pro

Yeah I spent all day trying this [stuff] & frankly, at this point, it's just easier to import the .OBJ file straight into DAZ, fiddle with the scaling until it's right & afterr I've positioned my character, just manually move the object into place. All I wanted to do was take a .OBJ file of some aviator shades I found & convert it to a wearable clothing asset in DAZ so I didn't manually have to import, fiddle & position it because that's a pain in the [neck]. But Everything I find online says "Ya gotta use blender an to do dat, yuh gotsta use da [blooming] bridge". I spent half the day fighting with DAZ Central trying to get Daz studio to ACTUALLY recognize the [content] that DAZ Central SAID it installed, Ended up downwloading DAZ 4.5, (so now I have  separate instalations of DAZ PLUS DIM & Standalone bridge downloads), FINALLY got the scripts option to appear in DAZ but no matter what I do, (& I've literally done EVERYTHING here), the [blessed] add on won't actually install in Blender & show up as an option. Maybe it's because I'm using 3.0. Don't know, and at this point, don't care because the cure is obviously worse than the disease. It turned a 5 minute task that I was hoping to cut down to a 5 second task into an all day [bloming] nightmare. [Bother] DAZ & [bother] Blender. I'm just about done with both of them.

You were misled by what you found online then - if you have a mesh then there is no need to go through Blender, unless the format needs converting to soemthing Daz Studio can read, and certainly no need to use the bridge. I would simply import and adjust the glasses to fit, export as OBJ and reimport (taking care to use the same preset in both options dialogues to avoid adding new scaling or reorientation), parent to the figure, and save as a wearables preset for future use (probably after adjuting the materials).

If you just isntalled through Central then everything should have worked. If you'd adjusted paths in some of the figthing to get it to work, assuming there were initial issues for soem other reason, then it might have become more complex. I always recommend using one of the sample scripts here to sync Instal manager and Daz Studio (get one set as you like, download the script to use that as the source using the link above the code, and drag the downloaded script into the Daz Studio Viewport) but I am not sure they work with Daz Central.

Daz Studio 4.5 is really old - I assume you have it from the SDK, which is why it is still available since the public SDK iss till at the original release version for compatibility. Daz Studio does not update the major version number (4) with each big  feature update - if it did we'd be up to DS 9 or so, I think, so you can see that 4.5 is going to be unable to do a lot of things that the current version can handle (Iray, dForce, at least soem features of Genesis 8 and - I think - Genesis 3 just off the top of my head)

I can't see the appdata/roaming showing on the blender addons menu. Any idea how I can un-hide these? Thanks a lot crying
