Mixamo animation and daz to blender

Lothar WeberLothar Weber Posts: 1,611

The new plugin works like Charme in blender. Now I tried to add an animation from mixamo via fbx to blender and somehow combine it. Tried "Actions" and copy and paste... seems I'am lost. Did someone tried this?

The only way I've gotten mixamo to work is to download it from mixamo as a .dae, import that into Blender and export that skeleton as a BVH, and then use the BVH importer from Diffeomorphic and it works like a charm. It seems like a lot, but I have all the bvh's saved on my hard drive so I don't have to do this every time now, I just have to use the importer and it's good to go.

I'm not sure if BVH importer works with the rig that the new addon makes in blender, i think it only works with how diffeomorphic's add on imports the rig, but I may be wrong.

Alternatively, you can probably use the rokoko addon in blender which is free for retargeting: https://www.blendersecrets.org/secrets/free-retargeting-addon-rokoko

I haven't tried it yet, but I've made it work with both the MHX and Rigify rig, so I don't know, it's worth a shot. Maybe I'll try it tonight or tomorrow if I get a chance and report back here as you bring up a good point.

Totally works on the rig from Daz to Blender, just tried it out. If there's an easier way than how I laid it out above, i don't know, but this is how I know it'll work!

I feel like I need a translation matrix to understand this thread.

Hi Bennie! Which work flow mentioned above worked for retargeting Mixamo animations to BlenderToDaz rig if you don't mind me asking. Is this using the the diffeomorphic importer to retarget BVHs to the DazToBlender character?

Hi Lothar! Can you walk us through the work flow you are using? Is this to retarget a BVH converted from a Mixamo FBX in Blender to a DazToBlender rig using the Rokoko add on? I have been trying this workflow with chaotic results so far. Any breakdown of how you are getting it to work would very helpful.

Copy and paste of a BVH or other motion file to a native blender rig can work in theory, but only if the two rigs are exactly the same.  They need to have the same bone names and armature structure, then you could go into the dope sheet and copy and paste the keyframes from one rig to the other.  If the rigs are not the same, the only way to transfer animation keyframes between the rigs is to retarget the animation keyframes from one armature to the other.  Retargetting can be done with addons such as Auto-Rig Pro or some other addons mentioned here.

Thank you. So far I have been having very good results retargetting BVHs exported out of Daz onto DazToBlender characters in Blender using the Rokoko add (once I matched all the naming in the bone list etc) For some reason the root jumps from the feet to the hips but that doesn't seem to effect much and there is some small foot spacing issues that are mostly not noticeable.
