How do I export a figure to Blender?

How do I export a figure to Blender? I want the rigging, and if possible the morphs. It would be good to be able to transfer poses and animations- especially facial expressions- although some of this is actually easier in Blender.

So far, when I try to export in FBX format, it comes into Blender all twisted up, even a plain G8F figure in the original A pose. Any idea what I might be doing wrong? I started with the default settings in the export dialogue, and tried changing a few items, but am not getting anything better.

Right now the best way to get DAZ figures into Blender is using the Diffeomorphic plugin  (my tablet is acting up so I can't give you a link, but you can easily find it with a Google search). Be sure to read the directions/manual or your results might not be so great. To get the latest features, get the developmental version. The are also a couple of threads here for using DAZ content in Blender that should help as well.

Diffeomorphic can give you almost everything you have mentioned here, and in your other threads, including morphs, jcm's, and IIRC there is now a way to transfer HD morphs.

Great! I will check that out. My experiments with Daz's native fbx exporter are just terrible. I don't know which end the problem is on- possibly both- but it's remarkable how bizarre the results are.

I've been able to export successfully using FBX, but it's been a while and I don't remember how I did it  (no mophs/shapekeys were exported/imported). Diffeomorphic works  so well there hasn't been a need to try anything else.

There is a person here on the forums (Wolf359) that uses FBX export to get Genesis 2 into Blender and seems happy with the results.  IIRC he uses Genesis 2 because it's rigging is more compatible with BVH from iClone, but this method does not retain any jcm's (his figures are typically fully clothed so they aren't hugely important).

There are two excellent threads about blender and the diffeomorphic plugin, if you search daz forums diffeomorphic, you probably find it.

I installed Diffeomorphic, but can't get it to work. One extra headache is that to get Diffeomorphic I installed Dropbox, which now seems to copy everything on your desktop and documents folders, so it is constantly messing with files and not letting me move them. Also, it keeps switching me to Dropbox when I think I'm trying to search something on Local Disk, so I tried changing all the file targets to a new folder on my desktop, which Daz sees but which the Diffeomorphic importer apparently can't read- although the Blender file system sees it allows things in it to be selected.

Blender's filing system is sufficiently opaque to me that I haven't been able to figure out what the error messages mean. If anyone actually uses Diffeomorphic and can offer some guidance, it would be much appreciated. I will search for threads about it on the forum, as well.

This is one of the best threads with info for working with DAZ content in Blender: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/407006/daz3d-to-blender-workflow/p1

Hopefully you can find the help you need there.

For downloading version 1.4.1 of the plugin you don't need to install DropBox (IMHO it's very intrusive), just right click on the link and select "save as". This should give you a direct download of the zip (for the development version you need to click on the link, but it isn't hosted at DropBox so no worries with getting it).

Thanks for the info. Too late about drop box- I just have to uninstall it when I get a moment, but apparently I have to move everything from the areas it copies somewhere else in order to delete the dropbox copies, or it will delete the copy on, say, my desktop as well. Sheesh.

I found that thread a little earlier, and it's got some really good stuff in it, but at this point I can't even make Diffeomorphic work. Blender can't find the stuff it needs, and I suspect that it has something to do with the dropbox nightmare going. I keep doing things on my C: disk and finding that I'm in dropbox...

Update on this nightmare- Dropbox completely trashed my file system, setting up its own that showed the regular names in the address bar, but the actual names were sent to applications. The result was conflicting file paths in applications, and uninstalling Dropbox did not fix this, but it did remove the actual desktop. After considerable struggle, somebody finally told me how to restore the desktop with a .bat file, and that seems to have done the trick, except with Blender which refuses to believe that there are no paths with word 'dropbox' left on the computer.

Anyway, I think all the problems I'm having stem from this dropbox issue, and once Blender gets the message, I'll be able to reinstall Diffeomorphic and have it actually work, as it seems to for everyone else. So, hopefully this topic is resolved. Thanks for your help.

There's no need to install DropBox to download Diffeomorphic. I'd uninstall that right away.
