Unfortunately No, it needs to either be exported or converted to Collada (.dae) or use DSON if the figure supports it. If you have not tried Ultimate Unwrap 3d, its perfect for this conversion if the figure is less than 250k polys and optimizing UV. Blender may have better conversion results with larger figures.

    Hmm, I'd forgotten Blender.
daz studio fbx import, not perfect (not too recognizes the riggin) but at least import.
I tried daz studio to create a CR2, for import in PP2012 , but then the error, because the FBX file does not contain OBJ file.
    I'll see it in blender.
thanks for reminding me of it.
    it is installed here somewhere.
    thank you

What app are you trying to import from?

You have the Pro version of Poser. Are you Poser fusion plugin up to date? There have been several updates to them for you version.

    Well,
my plan was to use the fbx import from daz and import models, and then create the PoserCF company (CR2), and then open it in poser.
This plan is mired in the mud for 2 reasons:
daz of the fbx, not import the model with perfect riggin ready animation,
fbx model comes without the obj file ... so no CR2 can be created.

    Aah!
I regreted it! The models are mesh low ... Although already bought the package, and I will keep it, because: come with many bvh files
bvhs the files that came with the package, I can use them in poser / daz, retarging animals (using ikinemawebanimate).
  • Just adding this as an update for anyone interested: Poser Pro 11 is reported to import/export FBX files. I will be testing this shortly and confirm.

I have just tested to import FBX of free model from Unity - Toon Maid Cool - to Poser 11 Pro.

Yes, it is true, that Poser 11 Pro can import FBX files, but it messes them badly.

Carrara can import FBX files and it looks like it preserves, the rigging, so one can pose imported FBX files in Carrara.

Of course, materials need to be fixed in Carrara - below is just the render of Toon Maid Cool from Unity store made in Carara 8.5 Pro.

Thanks for the earlier tip, FSMCDesigns, about Carrara capabilities of importing FBX files and preserving their riggings.

Just tried the same FBX file in Poser Pro 2014 Game Dev and it works much better.

It is hard to believe, that newer version of Poser (11 Pro), has messed up so badly FBX imports.

Exported the scene from Poser 2014 Game Dev as Collada and imported it to Daz Studio.

Thanks. Apparently Poser 2014 Game Dev is doing something to the imported FBX file,

so if one exports from it as a Collada, it works even in Daz Studio.

Daz Studio can also open Poser files directly, so pz3 files works as well.

The character is posable in Daz Studio - one can access all of the bones and change rotation of the joints

and the other features, but it looks like the clothes are not conformed, so the clothes pokethrough with the character,

    while changing the pose.

All the meshes are exported separately: character, hair and clothes, but in Daz Studio, names of them are not preserved.

    Need to do more experiments.

If you have Unity 3D, you can grab the freebie model from here: https://www.assetstore.unity3d.com/en/#!/content/28832

    and test it for yourself.

I only have PoserPro12 sadly,  but if it is possible to create useable rigged figures from FBX in later versions that I can then actually get into DAZ studio where I can use the transfer utility it could solve my iClone character creater issues I have with Carrara which loads the iAvatar export FBX but its weightmapping of any attached clothes throws an error reimporting into Character Creator.

I need to know exactly which version of Poser works best though.

Carrara natively  rigged collada imports into DAZ studio but not externally rigged imports exported, still get that mess.

Mind you those exciting developments coming to DAZ studio mentioned in another thread might include a working FBX importer which would be a game changer.

I have also iClone 6 pipeline together with 3DXchange 6, but it requires rerigging inside the program, to have a working character,

At least importing FBX file to 3DXchange does not screw up the character.

Poser Pro 2014 Game Dev reads the FBX files much better, but I have to try more files to see

if it works on all or most of them.

all one needs is a working duf DAZ native version of CC base and one can use the transfer utility to fit clothes and export FBX add the key for Character Creator

getting one proving just about impossible

My Carrara rigged clothes versions import into 3Dcxchange and are recognised as iAvatars BTW and are auto retargetted jus CC has an issue and it might remain with a Poser pipeline too for all I know.

thanks for the info. What other versions of poser do you have, if others can you try them out also please. I use lots of models from the games I own in other apps and would love to import them into DS if at all possible. Would save me a ton of time posing them in max and then exporting as an .OBJ.

Just checked the FBX export from Character Creator (Reallusion).

It exports in T-pose, but when I trying pose the FBX imported character in Poser Pro 2014 Game Dev,

    the mesh is screwed up.

    aw pity

it imports perfectly into Carrara but CC just will not accept the clothing as being weighted to the right bone no matter where I select and attach skeleton, needs to have ankles and elbows and the head heavily reweightpainted too, the clothes.

Another test. Mixamo character imported as FBX into Poser Pro 2014 Game Dev,

saved as poser scene .pz3 and imported into Daz Studio.

One can pose such character in Daz Studio, but there are no limits on joint rotation,

so one need to be careful with rotations.

First is the T-pose, with original materials, and then posed character with iray materials briefly fixed.

I have just checked again. Only importing as Poser file (.pz3) will allow posing character in Daz Studio.

Importing as Collada does not preserve hierarchy of the bones - all are at the same level.

Nice tests, Unfortunately I don't have the game dev version (5, 6, 7, 10 and 2012 pro, but no dev, DOH!). Sucks, I have 6 different apps that support .FBX/collada import/export and none of them can export a figure that will load correctly with rigging intact in DS.

One more Mixamo character imported as FBX to Poser Pro 2014 Game Dev, saved as .pz3 file

and rendered in Daz Studio iray. There is something not right when posed, though.

Just checked Poser 2012 Pro, but there is no option to import FBX files in it at all.
