Export DAZ mesh to rig in Maya? How?

Hi. I'm trying to export a DAZ genesis character as a .fbx file and then import the file into Maya. I want to rig and edit the character in Maya, incorporating it scenes (I like the tighter control Maya gives over DAZ).

Is this possible? It looks like the genesis mesh is quads, but will I run into any problems manipulating the mesh in Maya? So far I have had a really hard time with the mesh allowing me to select components (e.g. edges or vertices). Why would this be? Is there something which makes using DAZ meshes in Maya difficult or impossible? Or is this difficulty just my own stupidity? I apologize if this should be obvious.
