Loading time
Hello,
The loading of figures or scenes while using my desktop is much slower than when i'm using my notebook (the notebook is twice faster sometimes even faster).
My desktop has a i9 processor, 32G of ram. Nvidia 2080Ti card and SSD while my Notebook is much older (i7 processor, 16 G of ram and a nvidia 980 card also with an SSD).
I sent my desktop to be checked but they found no hardware problems.
Windows and Nivida drivers are updated for both.
In the notebook both the DAZ program and the data are in the same SSD while in the Desktop the program is installed in one SSD and the data saved in another bigger SSD (1 Tb). All SSD seems to have similar speed.
Also the notebook has 450 packages installed with DIM while there are 3500 installed on my Desktop SSD.
I am using a 4k monitor with the desktop if that matters.
Any ideas about why the desktop is slower to load ?
Thank you.

Which i7 processor (how many cores, etc.) and which i9 processor are you using. Windows 10 on both the desktop and the laptop?
I am not an Daz expert, but I think this deals with the fact you have 3,500 items with morphs installed VS. the 450 items. Daz loads all the installed morphs which can slow down loading time. Maybe uninstall some products or unlink one of your data bases so that you have the same amount of items installed and see if you see a diffrance. Just my 2cents.
Notebook: Intel® Core™ i7-4710MQ 2.5 GHZ 4 cores 6M cache 4th generation
Desktop : Intel I9-9900k 3.60ghz 8 cores 16M cache 9th generation
Using windows 10 on both
I didn't see that... the large number of morphs will make a difference! I usually use what I need and leave the others to download when I need them.
So even if i am loading only one figure like victoria 8 for example all the morphs installed will be loaded too?
I will try to unlink the SSD and install just a few figures on another one to test that. Thank you.
Will the number of morphs installed affect the loading of a figure, prop or scene instead of affecting only the loading time of the program itself? That would explain it for sure.
I do mostly the same while using my notebook, only the things i'm using are installed.
Thank you.
Some figures (g8) will load in 10-20 seconds other are much slower taking 40-60 seconds.
The desktop however take twice those times to load.
How many G8 characters and additional morph sets do you have? From what I've read, having a lot of characters and additional morphs can slow load times a lot. This thread may help https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/372136/how-to-load-a-character-faster-solved-with-a-workaround/p1
There are like 450 characters, I'm not sure about how many aditional morphs but i have a lot of them.
The notebook however has only 30 characters installed.
Thank you for the thread link, it's is very helpfull.
Yes. Daz will load all the morphs installed when loading a character even if you do not plan on using all of them. The more morphs installed, the slower the character load time.
That explains it. Thank you.
It will read the files in, as it needs to know which sliders to show and which trigger which othe sliders, but it won't keep the actual shape changes in memory if the morph is zeroed (it will read and retain any morphs that are embedded in the file, rather than saved as an asset, of course since there isn't an external reference).
but can that make the loading of a character slower if there are more morphs installed even if the character is not using them?
Yes, it can.
I've learned to live with it. As others have suggested, you can leave the morphs you don't use uninstalled and then install them when you need them, but I'm too impatient to deal with that. I never know what morphs I'm going to need and some of my characters use a lot of different morphs so I just keep them all installed. On my system G8F takes about 30sec to load and from what I've seen, that's not too bad all things considering.
What I have done is uninstall as many characters as I can that I know I'll never use. I've gotten so many Pro Bundles that contain characters that I'd never dream of buying, so those just don't get installed at all. That has helped.
40-60 seconds not too bad. Usually a few minutes here lol
Your welcome. Wow! That definitely looks like the issue, hopefully you got some good ideas to manage/speed load times from that thread.
Right. Thank you.
I was worried that it could be some hardware problem or configuration so i will just live with it too.
Uninstalling characters that i never use seems like a good idea. Thank you.
Some characters take longer to load yes
I was more worried about the difference between my desktop and the notebook, now i can just wait without problems lol
Think that I'll uninstall the characters i never use. However now that i know the problem i can just wait for the loading.
