    Yep. LED bulbs seem to use about 10% less power for the same lumens. The toxicity is true too. What I don't know is the life. The 10000 hour CF lamps certainly do not last 10000 hrs.     I have this alarm clock that my parents gave me around 1980 that has red LED numbers.  Still going strong, although the sound quality sucks as the radio speaker cone didn't hold up so well... that'd be well over 300,000 hours on the LED's, as I've used this thing constantly in different settings as it's compact enough to put just about anywhere.  It currently gains on the time by about a minute a month, but that's easy enough to correct as needed.

    This might be a case of 'they don't build them like they used to', but it's noteworthy nonetheless.

    Anyways, as for the apartment mentioned in the OP, yeah I don't see it winning any LEED awards... as for 'traditional' attics, there ARE ways to significantly improve their 'R' values after the fact, to R38 or higher, just sayin...

    Vaulted ceilings are OK, IF they are properly insulated.  But I'm not seeing any insulation between those ceiling joists.  They are visually more interesting than a flat ceiling of course...

    I get that PA's like using interesting titles to get people to look at their product though.  That's how the game is played.

    You're right about them not building like they used to. Those LEDs used a completely different chemistry to modern high brightness ones.
