Image background

The back ground of my image that does not have an object in it used to be blank on the render image. This allowed me to put in a backgroung using gimp. Now my backgrounds are black. What have I changed. Images saved as .jpeg. I cannot find any of the old files but this is a new one.

JPG doesn't support alpha channels - use PNG ot Tiff.
