HD Body Shapes & Head Morphs
in The Commons
Sorry for being stupid, but I don't quite understand the purpose of these products. Are the Body Shapes replacement bodies for characters, and the Head Morphs replacement heads? Do I get something from them I don't from morph packs? Do they (especially the faces) fit any character?

Comments
They're morphs you can use to build your own characters, like any morphs pack. These are simply HD morphs, so more detailled "building blocks" than some others packs.
the head morphs do not appear to add any HD to a face ... the product page looks pretty smooth to me.
did you increased sub-d?
if you referring to my comment, I did not buy it because the product image does not appear to add anything HD ...
see the difference .. Silas HD and the package for sale head morphs HD

Yea, I noticed that a well. The body shapes you can see the detail even without a close up but the faces... look very smooth. NOT HD in my book!
Was thinking the exact same thing. These are NOT HD

They're not listed as merchant resources, so you certainly can't create a character which would integrate those morphs in a single morph. A preset / control dial using those might be ok.
For me they don't even feel like HD morphs. There are 5 head shapes. How are they supposed to add HD details (even if they had them, even if they don't really show in the promos) to my own designed faces, without changing the shape of those faces?
I don't understand why Daz doesn't just release some HD morphs. Those would be great.
Any morph higher than subdiv level 0 is considered an HD morph. This can be used for mid level details rather than wrinkles and skin pores, which are better kept in maps IMO due to the insane polygon count those kind of details need.
I would agree with this if these were actual morphs that introduced those details.
But in this case these are 5 head shapes with some mid level details.
This means when those head shapes are applied, they won't only introduce details but they will change the current shape of the head.
Really? Well that is not surprising with how often we see the term "HD"' thrown around in the store. Maybe we need a term for actual HD, like "Detail HD", :HD ultra" or something. I am all for using high mesh along with detailed maps, but products needs to state these things also so users know exactly what they are getting and not just HD hype
to me HD (at DAZ) has always meant subd over 2 or detail from the HD tool that PAs have. For instance, the HD morphs that come out for the addon characters, most of those show extra detail. Looking at these morphs I see nothing that shows me HD based on my expecatations. I would like to see extreme HD detail, not subtle, since that can always be dialed down if needed.
Those morphs don't look like HD details only, they're full morphs.
There's no consistent terminology I'm aware of, but I'd say that 'HD morphs' can cover a range of things, whereas 'HD Details' is more likely to be things like pores (or scales).
There are things you can do with HD morphs that are subtle and expanded from what you can do with a regular morph. Like, for example, teeth. You don't need HD to finely detail out cavities and whatnot, but if you want a lot of control over where the tooth is and how it sits in the gums, it's way easier to work with even SubD 1.
I can see HD details that aren't typical in that head product but they aren't related to skin pores and wrinkles at all which is what most people will look for when they are told a product is HD. Also, since they are women adding pores & wrinkle HD detail to their skin will caused them to be considered unattractive by potential customers and hurt sales. Why do that?
I think it's worth adding to my list of products.
So when is the male version coming out? These are no use to me if I cannot use similar settings on the males.
An HD morph is a morph that acts on the vertices created by SubD, rather than acting on the base cage.
So basically, they are selling 5 normal head shapes that we can't make because we don't have access to those tools.
Because there is nothing special about any of those shapes.

They are selling five head shapes. I agree there's not a lot off ne detail in them, though the soft ligthting compared to the promos for some older HD add-ons isn't helping to show them off to their best advantage, but I think there is some fine detail in the lips at least (which will help with some of the too-shiny materials in some characters) and some greater definition in the ears, around the lips, nose, and philtrum than is possible with SD morphs. I don't think they are being sold as HD details - they are being sold as new shapes, for use in isolation or mixed with each other or with other morphs, to add some clearly defined options to the libraries of people who want them.
I bought both packages, expecting HD morphs but did find character morphs. It took a bit to find the dials, 'Female Head Shape...' then I applied them, set up a basic upclose view. Didn't even think to look at SubD Levels until I saw this thread. They were default set to 1 and 2. The shapes do create distinct characters, I found I liked number 5 the best, as that one did have wrinkles. I did use SubD 3 for her.
When I saw the wish for males, I tried a blend of all five heads, then used the 'Cross-Figure' to transfer to G8M. Only issue of course is no Adam's apple. I have not looked at the bodies yet.
As I collect morph packages, I am not disappointed, but, many of the PAs have produced very good packages to date that do the same thing. But, if someone is new to DAZ Studio, this might be a good purchase for them.
Thank you for the info, this is very helpful to me! I really like the face shapes and was curious how they'd work for male characters.
So, I have been trying since I posted the above entry to find the body shapes, no joy. I checked and the files are installed per the file list in the Read Me, but I have searched on every possible combination I can think of and I cannot find them. If someone has found them, can you post an image of the dials for me please? Otherwise, I dread that I may be sending another report to customer service.
Thanks ahead of time.
Mary
@plasma_ring I was planning on thanking you later, after I successfully created the character I needed for an author. You posted in Mar 2019 in RawArt's thread on Medusa a male version. And I was trying to find out, before I bought the packages if I would be able to use the G8F products on a G8M! Unfortunately for me early today, when I successfully had the character, and was selecting a background (and had not saved yet), DAZ Studio crashed. sigh. But, I had done it and now, when the author is available later, I can customize his teenage mutant snake kid for him. So many thanks. And I thought your render was great.
.
Thanks, I had tried those words too. Yeah, another report to DAZ. Emma and I know each other very well at this point.
But they do great work.
I'd still like to hear a explanation for why people aren't creating high-res skin details in Zbrush, baking them as normal maps, and making those available. Isn't that something Zbrush can do that would negate the need for a lot of HD morphs?
They should show up under the shaping tab:
Thanks dougj, I had uninstalled the file on my laptop, and it will not reinstall now. So on my desktop, I tried to locate where you have found it. But all I see are the HD shapes for characters and other shaping packages. With 197 HD shaping packages/characters, it took a bit of time to look carefully. I have a report into Customer Service due to the issue on the laptop already.
But your image confirms what the icons should look like. Thank you very much.
