How to split a face?

Hi!

I'm new to DS/Hexagon and still working my way through tutorials to get my basic knowledge. At the moment I'm following at tutorial on how to make a shirt in Hexagon. I'm at the part where the front meets back/connects over each shoulder.

The tutorial has 2 front faces that should connect with the 2 faces from the back.
The problem is that I only have 1 face from the back to connect with the 2 front faces. Still my "back face" has the same size as the 2 together belonging to the front.

So I'm having problems trying to bridge them, as they won't connect without a gap in the middle. Can I split a face in two, and how?

try using vertex modeling edge tools to create a new line to pull and split the face with. it's hard to tell if that's exactly what you need based on your description, a picture would probably be better in the future.
