hi guys i'm interested in grab the mei lin 7 due to the sales but in order to do that i need a special info from anyone which already bought her:

i want know a info about her outfits poly count

https://www.daz3d.com/red-lilies-outfit-for-genesis-3-female-s

https://www.daz3d.com/mercurial-guardian-outfit-for-genesis-3-female-s

https://www.daz3d.com/lotus-maiden-outfit-for-genesis-3-female-s

https://www.daz3d.com/darkshade-outfit-for-genesis-3-female-s

i would know the poly count of that outfits:

if you don't know how to do that here a exemple:

Twilight Sorceress: Full
Total Faces: 59,708

i want the "base resolution not the high, i'm really interested in buy this bundle but if the poly count of the outfits turn out to be "too high" which i means above 100k quadri or vertices then it will be too much.

i would love a little help from the peoples which already had purchuased it and can give that info, if you want don't need to link a picture of the cloth just the numbers like what i place under the picture the total number of the full set of his base vertices/face/quad

if you don't know how to setup to display the base you can see it in the parameters tab on the mesh resolution normally it come as high just change to base for eac piece.

thanks in advance.

wow really thanks, now it's really make ivan rally bad for me, his outfits are too high even the "mage robe is too high sadno

it's really looks like excluding few characters like mei lin overal the majority of the brundles are really bad for game design, too much high poly outfits and hairs to be usefull for game dev, it's making G8 really looks like the best one for it compared with others Generations, G2 had the same problem most of the pro bundles come with insane high poly count outfits, the only ones which could be "usefull" were the minotaur and a little the lizard man, all the normal humans come with high poly count outfits, G1 also had this but at last in G1 and good part of V4/M4 had very game friendly hairs styles.

now waiting for the others ones it's really helping with my list of "what to buy next, i was thinking in not buying the mey lin 7 but after this post now i'm really interested on her but looks like which she the centaurs and the "demons/succubus and maybe mika 7 which had "moderated poly count outfits all the others characters are high poly count.

Poly counts can be reduced with Decimator, if that is a viable option. Textures use a lot more memory than geometry, reducing the resolution could be a good way to reduce memory load, if that's a problem. I can try one and compare renders to see if it's good enough. Later...

i tried to use decimator and in the end it not goes well, specially for the animation if you start to reduce too much like 50% or + it's start to break the influence of the cloth, the decimator tool need some improviments, it can be good for render but for game need some improviments on how it work in the influence otherwise you ending having a really big trouble to fix all the issues, for exemple the Character creator from reallusions also have a decimator much more advanced than this one and much better on influence, you can choose parts from the mesh where you want to reduce the poly count and it break much less the influence than the daz decimator, overal the tool can be good for render if the poses are not too complex and the reduction is not that big, otherwise it can be very troublesome.

wow thanks again, and yeah after many "trial and errors" i really noticed which G8 outfits from bundles and some artists are much better than any other genesis(1, 2 and 3), much more light, the only real issue is hairs and now eybrows and any other body hair because or they are too high or they using fibermesh (which is insane) or are using dforce which also is too high, G8 is good to get outfits, characters(skin textures) it's really the most "game dev friendly among the 4 genesis so far only really few outfits inside the pro bundles were high while in the others genesis was the opposite, and only some "specific artists" like aeon soul which love to make high definiton armors are the "non good ones" in general.

Lines? What are Lines, in this context?

    I just copy the text...

  • EllessarrEllessarr Posts: 1,395

i also don't know what are that "lines" the daz studio display, but they are not really important info, the important infos are the vertices, faces(which is equal to quad) and tris, vertices is the "total geometry of the object" while faces are the total quads and are the total try, each quad have 2 tris this info is important for game dev, because when you export the character to the engine it is turned in tris, not all the times if a character have like let's say 2000 quad it will means which the object will have only 4000 tris is possible while modeling a character to have some extra "tris" inside the model, that is why the "vertice" is the most accurace number with it you know exactly how much high or low poly a character is.

For current consoles (ps4 and xbox one) characters for "triple AAA heavy realist games characters ca be around 60k to 70k faces/quads(couting outfit, hair, and skin), count all the parts of the character, ofcourse you can make some tricks to reduce the poly count to remove the "invisible polygons, the ones which would be ending hidden like character skin inside the cloths, or even the cloths themselfs when they have "non visible parts, and to be fair most of the details for game outfits are doing through the materials (normal map, specular and bla bla bla), for PC gaming the numbers can go a little high like going near the 100k quad/faces this is for the "main character" and any other reall important character in the game or even animation in case you want to make "animations and not games, any background character can be really low poly and you can do that using LODS.

    really thanks for the help.

I had a scene that was utterly bogged down until I discovered this hair

yeah that is why i avoid g8 hairs in general, the only "good hairs in G8 or maybe G3 are the "anime style" cuz are from low to moderate, G2 follow almost the same pattern you can find some good hairs here and there without being anime/cartoon but overal they also are high agian unless you are looking at anime/cartoon hairs and bundles.

the only "really good hairs" (low to moderate) are v4&m4 and genesis 1(all the pure hair), also all the "stars 1 hairs" but also are anime but i really don't know if they can be fit in G8, in general only old hairs are good to be usable, if you don't want dforce or too realistic hair or to detailed or is using outside daz, then really in general don't use G8 and G3 you only gonna waste time, again excluding only few exceptions here and there (like also the basic hairs).

another insane high poly count hair is this one:

    https://www.daz3d.com/cecilia-curls-hair-for-genesis-8-and-3-females

    https://www.daz3d.com/ping-hair-for-genesis-8-and-genesis-3-females

those hairs are insane high the first one if i'm not wrong it is aroind 1 million poly count, the hair itself alone make the daz lag as hell.

This is a good thread. I'm always looking for more lighter assets to use on G8, even though I'm not developing any games. The Genesis 1 short hairs autofit just fine.

My problem with assets are the textures. Not sure which program they use for texturing, but many of them use multiple maps despite the UV mapping indicating that they could all fit in the same image file. Off the top of my head, the dForce Yoshino Outfit from the Sakura 8 bundle is like this. The belt and skirt can all fit on the same image file but they're all separate. Sad, because like this outfit and I've been too busy to combine image files.

yeah i've alread asked then to add that info to all the products, the support told which she already passed to the team, but can't make any real promise but they will see what they can do.

It can really help a lot since, indeed not only for game but also for render, having too "too high count poly stuffs can slow down a lot render and some products, specially hairs, can easy have a insane poly count, like close to million, which is insane for a single object, what is really weird when you take in account which the character itself have a "moderate to low" poly count and sometimes the outfit+hair can have more polygons than a full scene of props.

As i told and learned so far, for hair the best options are indeed between v4/m4 g1 and g2(many g2 pros and some artits), g3 and g8 are without any doubts the worst side of the coin, things get worst when we go to genesis 8 because of now the dforce hairs and furs.

when comes to outfits without any doubts i feel the one being better is g8 if you go by pros and some artits, specially the ones like moonscape graphs while i found some "high poly counts"(above 100k) overal i also can find much more "low to moderate poly count outfits which is good, v4, g1, g2 and g3 are a mix because while you can find some moderate, overal most of the products are around the 100k, one thing which i really hate in overal are the "shoes" in many cases the shoes are like 50 to 70% of the poly count of the outfit, they aways are among the most high count, like easy going around 40 to 70k.

but it would be really awesome if they add that info to the product page it can help a lot peoples which are really looking for more "light stuffs".

wow really thanks, now i really can buy both alexandra and edward, i was really wanting they outfits and "textures", now i can finally grab it, they armors are very cool, and since they are inside what i want then make things even more easy.

no doubts Genesis 8 pro bundles are the most "poly friend" stuffs, unlike previous generations specially g# which you have a lot of high poly outfits and must dig hard to find some "low or moderated poly stuffs.

also floid really looks good too, if i'm not already strugling to buy the interactive licenses now i would pick up some of those pro bundles.

srry for too big list, but if you have any of that outfits post it please, another note i just want the "outifts" count any "props, like weapons, staff, bottle or anything which is not part of the "cloth" and is just a extra again like even weapons you don't need to load it, only load what is part of the cloths or if possible when loading the whole outifts remove all the "props' leaving only the outift, it make much more easy to know if the outfit is "high or low" because in many cases that extra "props" can have much more polygons than the whole outfit, something like lets say all the pieces of a armor being like 40k poly and when you load a sword that sword alone have more 40k making the outfit goes to 80k while in reality it only have 40k, then if possible load just the outifit leaving behind any props or removing then.

wow.  i just opened this thread for the first time, and i'm in awe of the kindness and generosity you're demonstrating in this thread, NorthOf45.

a 'little help' (as per the post title, which i still haven't stopped laughing about) just doesn't touch what you've been doing here.  seriously!

    very cool.

Well, I started, and no one else jumped in. It literally takes one minute to load an outfit, copy the scene info data, and paste it into a text editor. About 5 minutes of formatting ({semi colon, delete, end}, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, next) and copy the lot to the comment box. Kind of the sort of tasks I used to find late Friday afternoons at work when I really didn't want to strain the gray matter too much, like putting hole reinforcements on those first sheets that always got ripped out of the 3-ring binders. Remember paper hard copy?
