100% even lighting

Is there any way to fully light a scene from all angles so that there are no shadows? I know you're going to say why would you want that it won't look realistic but, I just want to know : )

With 3delight it's very easy. With IRay there will always be some shadows.

    that's nice ...

  • I haven't had a chance to test this, but I think using an all-white image for the lighting HDRI should do the job.

An HDR that's all white would do it. I had to upload as a zip as .hdr files are not allowed.

Edit: Uploaded new. The first one was way too bright

    For the curious:

    • In Photoshop create a new 32-bit image (1024x512 is plenty big) with a white background.
    • Unlock the background layer by clicking on the lock
    • Image->Adjust->Exposure with a value of 2 for exposure (if you enter too large a number, it will always be too bright).
    • Save As... Radiance (.HDR)

My Oso Toon has an option to do this.

Essentially it changes surfaces to emit their map rather than use regular coloring, and then adjusts the render to limit light bouncing.

A pure white hdr will work only for an item not surrounded by any other objects, and self shadowing can still happen.

  • So I am rendering a scene which occurs on a crowded subway train, and that is the problem, way too many shadows and I can't render a clear shot

Stick a small ghost light in the face of whatever you want to highlight.   Having a bunch of people standing close to one another without any shadows being cast would look unnatural.

Have the subject be daring & get in trouble for lighting a cigarette so the lighter will be held up to their face.
