Are we supposed to create art with the stuff we buy here?

most of my stuff sits in a directory. Its like collecting rocks or maybe postage stamps. Or is it hoarding?
I'm off to check out the $1.99 for a day offerings. BRB

Well some might just load it and off load it if you know what I mean
Think of it as electronic Beanie Babies or Cabbage Patch Kids . . . with no rare or limited edition versions.
Some say that our brains don't care whether it's virtual reality or actual reality, it's the feeling it gets when it sees something it wants that matters. So when the brain sees a big house or whatever for $7.99 it closes the deal immediately. No loans, interest or payments to worry about afterwards either. And even if there were, that's easy to solve, with instancing you can have unlimited cash:

You are suppose to create the art, you like.
Make pictures if you feel like it. I find it perfectly valid to just be a collector. My digital collection takes way less shelf space than my Barbie dolls, Beanine Babies, and Pokemon toys.
I pick up pretty much any free asset offered but stuff I buy is strictly stuff I intend to use in renders.
In theory you collect it so if you wake up in the middle of the night going "Gee, I want to render a picture with a tent stretcher and left handed smoke shifter in it!" you have those items available. It might take the rest of the night to remember where they are in your content directory mind you, but you have them!
Or you can take the other justification route: Some people have a hoarding instict. If you walk into their house (which ususally isn't possible) they have 25 years of newspapers stacked up against the wall in case they wanted to clip a coupon out of them, 23 assorted cats, 60 years of National Geographic, 5 years worth of platic waiting to be recycled, and a remarkable matchbook cover collection.
You by comparison are able to store all your hoarding on one 3.5 inch device (at worst, 2) so nobody can tell.
My 3D hobby consists of 75% shopping for sales, 15% installation and management of files, 6% making "art", 4% watching training videos.
I pick up almost anyting even if I think I will use it in future. Fortunately I cleared my loans this month and even preclosure one because now I hate loans. Unfortunately it will require few months to build extra cash and pc+ sale is now became black and white for me and thus only interested Build your own Bundle and Platinum Club for a day items.
Of course you aren't supposed to create art with this stuff. Otherwise there would be a 'Create Art' button!
this is very true /// maybe an option for random stuff in a scene ... push ..and 10 items show up, with random lighting, and viola ..make art. kinda like throwing paint on a canvas
Ah, but there is, or at least, there was, a Make Art Button
I need that button. I hope my brain will thank me for this button.
I do, but I'm also always saying it's the perfect replacement for that ball-jointed doll hobby I could never afford to have.
I've picked up a lot of characters just because I liked them, and plenty of the images I've rendered are less "I wanted to make An Art" and more "look at this pic I took of my favorite doll/MMO character."
thought it was for creating erotica
book covers
..sometimes being on a tight budget is a good thing as I only get what I know I will use. About the only content I have that doesn't fall under that are the weekly freebies.
I create all kinds of art with most of my content! Only about 5% of it actually makes it as far as being loaded into the DS viewwport.
Art is in the eye of the beholder. I happen to think my collection of Iray shaders is beautiful; so I'm already winning whether I render anything with them or not. :)
I just love to play jenga ... cart jenga
Art is secondary, you must simply collect...Specially from the RawArt store. You really need to get the full collection to truely feel satisfied with life ;) LOL
Rawn
I'm feeling your opinion is just a little suspect. Having said that, there is some super-awesome stuff just waiting to be collected!
@OP
Personally, I create art when I can't find anything I fancy collecting right now.
I also get a lot of fun from playing the Percentage-Off Game.
Almost as suble as me... just true. Raw does cool stuff.
Kinda like Pokemon, hmm?
Unfortunately that is a very small part of the cimmuntiy.
For me, at this point in time, 25% store browsing, 10% purchasing, 5% modeling, 30% scene setup, 25% rendering and 5% selling. Hoping to increase the modeling and selling part in the near future.
