Unadvertised Limited Duration Promotions

What's up with all of the unadvertised promotions posted in the middle of the day that last just a few hours? Are we expected to dedicate our lives to logging into Daz every hour throughout the day on the off chance that a promotion we might want to take advantage of will go live? I am starting to get annoyed with logging on to discover that I just missed out on a sale by an hour or so.

That's pretty standard in the Daz Store.

You can install the Daz-Deals extension for Chrome or Firefox, and set up email notifications for new promos, wishlist items going on sale, items going below price threshholds you set, etc.  It also provides information about price movements, forum links to threads where the items are discussed (and linked), and linked gallery entries showcasing the assets.   It's got a lot of things, and it's been available for a few years.

Once set up, the notification emails will still work if you don't have a browser with the extension open at the time.

If you weren't aware of it, here is the thread about it.  If you are concerned about missing promotions, this will help you out.

You could try getting Overdrawn and ATI's  DAZ Deals browser addon and then sign up for an email whenever the promos change

Actually, what I am concerned about is Daz's marketing team making me work harder to enjoy the privilege of giving them my money, when they should be the ones working their buns off to convince me to buy stuff.

  • I go on all the time, but that doesn't matter as these deals tend to always appear at 1am or 2am this side of the world,

Yes!  DAZ wants you to spend your whole life and all your money here.

There are ways to be notified when there are new sales though, like Ati's plugin or this one:

    https://taosoft.dk/software/freeware/sw-daz/

I would like an app that sends text messages, because I have too much email as it is. Or a simple phone app that’s iOS friendly that sends notifications....

You can set what email messages will give you an alert on your phone. At least with gmail.

Really? I don’t currently have it set for a gmail account but I could switch it. I have no idea how to do that though on an iPhone...

It doesn't have to be a Gmail account.   Adding a Gmail account on an iPhone is pretty easy, though.

I'm not sure what notifications other apps have. Gmail I know has the option to only show notifications for messages marked as "important." Now it's just a matter of setting up a filter that will set certain messages to be important (such as the sale notifications), and set up any others to not be important.

You can set up the filter from a message. Click the menu message icon, select "Filter messages like this," it will automatically fill in the sender. You can further limit it to messages with just a certain subject if you want to, such as the start of a new sale, or your wishlist items going on sale. Then in the next and final step, select "Always mark it as important." Click "Create filter," and you're done.

A new sale starts, and you not only get an email, but also a notification on your phone, tablet, smartwatch, whatever.

For example, I used to have my fitness tracker watch beep and buzz when a new sale started or when wishlisted items went on sale.

If you're in front of the computer more, you can use Taoz's software, linked above.

So there really shouldn't be any excuse to miss a sale. :D

I used to be pretty upset about missing such sales when I was still new to the site....

TDLR a few years and...I kind of don't care any more. I mean, if I am just happening to be online by the time of the sale, and it has some items I want, or a great gift card offer, then I buy.

    For those sales I miss?

There's always another sale. <---Most important thing to remember in DAZ-Land. smiley

Probably to the same conditions, or even better conditions. It doesn't really matter. Because, those items you really want or need, you probably already bought at the earliest occasion. As for the rest of the wishlist, it's 'nice to have', usually.

(With the sole exception of items being pulled from the store, of course.)

    Very good points! Thanks.

This is the only suggestion in the thread that doesn't sound like it was written by someone suffering from Stockholm Syndrome ;)

Are you working regularly with those very old generations? If you don't, it's usually best (and way less time&money expensive) to focus on just one generation (or maybe G3&G8, as you can use a lot of resources crosswise)...

I'm suffering from the 'Bling! - oh, look, a shiny new shop item, me waaaants!' syndrom instead. wink

Hmm, I’m not even sure how to associate my phone number with gmail... I usually use Mac Mail and on Windows I only see a choice to archive, delete, move, flag, mark as read or move to junk. I don’t see anything about “important.”

I'm not familiar with Mac Mail, or whether it has an app. With Gmail, you don't associate your phone number with it, you install the gmail app and that's it.

If you don't use gmail, then it may even be easier to set it up. Create a new gmail account, one that you will not use for anything else, nobody needs to know that address. Install the gmail app on your phone with that account. In Mac Mail, set up mail forwarding to this new address for the emails you want to get notifications about, and enjoy. When a sale alert arrives to your Mac Mail address, it gets automatically forwarded to the gmail address and the gmail app will notify you on your phone, tablet, etc.

If you're only using it for this, then you don't have to separately set up anything else. (Well, other than the forwarding in Mac Mail, but you do that in mac Mail.) You'll get a notification every time you get an email to this new address. And since you'll only get emails when the sales emails are forwarded from your Mac Mail address, you're done.

If you have the gmail app installed, then to test it, send an email to it. It should give you a notification as soon as the email arrives.

On the Gmail web site, go to Settings (the cog at the upper right) and then Filters and Blocked Addresses.

    Create a new filter.

    From: [email protected]

Click Create filter or Search - it doesn't matter

Check: Always mark it as important and Never send it to Spam

And maybe apply a Label to it.  You can create a new label here if you want.  I do that for everything from Daz and Rendo related too so they're all tagged the same.  They all have a green DAZ label in my inbox, but I label lots of stuff from senders I get mail from regularly.

    Create filter

    And you're done.
