Armor reflection fail

As seen in the pic, there are several areas that are bad artifacts, their color, be it in the form of dots or areas that seem to be 'reflection' are white (#ffffff). Does anyone know why this is happening?

Thanx

  • Overzealous bump mapping? Could be a quirk in the metallic rating,

The Shoulder is clearly not reacting in the same way as the Bracer. Subtle variances between the two would explain it.

What armor is it? It doesn't look like how Iray would handle a fully metallic surface, IMO. It looks more plastic with higher reflectivity.

If you are talking about the shoulder it could be the metallic flakes if that render is Iray.

Probably not relevent, but I should mention that reflectiveness is affected by how far off center an object is in an iray rendered scene.

I had a situation using the Airport Island product where characters were a LOOOONG ways from 0x/0y/0z.  Their eyes went black, and also the chrome/metal reflections of other items in the scene were weird.  I ended up re-centering the scene by grouping everything and locating the items I was rendering close to the 0/0/0 center.  I had an HDRI skydome in play in this instance, fo course, set to infinite.

So if for some reason your character is a ways off center, well it's worth mentioning. Otherwise, file this in the back of your mind in case it becomes relevant later in another scene.

As I mentioned, this probably isn't relevant in your case, but might apply to weirdness that some people may see occasionally.  So this reply is for googles searches and such.

    X-Fashion Catrina Outfit for Genesis 8 Female(s)

Still a newbie, btw. Learning fast... well, faster than I thought I would which is fairly slow. A lot of the time I have found answers to problems I have over Youtube or docs I have found, this particular problem I could not label it so Google could find any useful pages.

Do you know where I can find a vid or doc that deals with this?

Man, the PA could have done a better job with the metallic materials, sorry to say. You can also see it in the promo pictures. But that's not your question.

Any chance the outfit comes with IRAY and 3Delight materials, and you chose the wrong ones? I don't think that's what's happening here, but maybe check to be sure?

The large long white dot on the bracer doesn't look like a mistake to me, I think it's just the reflection of the sun. Try this: select the surface of the bracer and increase Glossy Roughness.

The pauldron looks like a different issue. Perhaps it just needs to render longer? Try this: Under Render Settings -> Progressive Rendering set Max Time to 0 and increase Rendering Quality (try something like 3 or 5). Now go to Window -> Panes (Tabs) -> Tool Settings; under Active Tool select Spot Render; switch from Viewport to New Window. Now use the cursor to draw a square around the pauldron. DAZ will now render only that spot with the higher quality render settings.

Nope, several color options but no mention of 3Delight or Iray. Forgot to take a look at them. I'll see if the 'default' option is not a good one. The pic is with new materials.

Actually, that elongated white dot has rough edges, not the blurred edges you'd expect. That and the other white artifacts show the same symptoms.

Will look into that. Later. Been banging my head on this issue and this the earlier one with the hair causing spider web artifacts just below the hairline. Figured how to get past the hair issue, and this one the symptoms are appearing on the new materials. <sigh>

The pic I'm sending is the one I'm currently rendering. It is at 12% now. You'll notice that the metal armor is darker than the pic above which you'd think the reflection would be a bit darker as well. Both pix have #ffffff white, sooo...

As stated above, been battling this most of today so I'll get back to it tomorrow. Better that than throwing the computer out the window. laugh

You didn't mention what kind of lighting you use? HDRI? Did you try another one? I've had bad HDRIs cause artefacts.

Nope, did not hear lighting causing this but it does make sense. And yes, I am using HDRI (EasyEnvironments GreenHills). Will let you guys know if it works or not. :)
