Cheering crowd for gladiatorial combat, boxing and wrestling matches, mma fights, etc

Good day PA's!

I'd love to render fighting scenes. Gladiatorial combat in an ancient roman arena, for one. Also, more contemporary scenes such as boxing, wrestling, mma, or pro-wrestling.

I would be happy to spend money on a product that fills the background with cheering crowds. Using actual figures would take forever to set up and melt my computer. So I'm thinking, perhaps a now-crowd billboard solution? Or perhaps a HDRI? I don't know if that would be possible, with the perspectives involved and all...

There could be DOF already built in if that makes it easier, sort of like this background, but a proper HDRI.

Let me know if such a thing already exists!

  • I was looking for the same thing.  Can't find anything like this.

  • For the Roman crowd - the Colosseum comes with the crowd billboard: https://www.daz3d.com/the-colosseum

A Now-Crowd solution would be best but it'd need several sets to include both ancient and modern crowds (and why not sci-fi future as well?). I think RiversoftArt likes the idea but thinks the scale might be a bit much. (How many different figures would be needed for a full crowd?). I'd settle for 15 that I'd use with DOF and mixed patterns to avoid too much repetition.

Depending on your needs, a modern crowd using elements of: https://www.daz3d.com/now-crowd-billboards--modern-sitting-crowd with https://www.daz3d.com/now-crowd-billboards-party-time and perhaps some others could work (especially with DOF)

Yeah, that would need about a dozen cutouts and then the a script written using instancing non-random placement about to where the audience building seats and aisles were translated to.

I wish I understood the UV mapping of those billboards

I wanted to create an animated crowd just rendering looping frames manually swapping the textures but I get all the same figure

I suspect it's a shadermixer nightmare and cannot use animated texture scripts either

    it also rules out Filament

after spending all day animating the figures creating diffuse and alpha series surprise

even using AI locally on my PC, that was a lot of work

I did use Hunyuan 3D to create 3D versions of the billboards for the foreground seats

have 3 instances of each, may do more

There's a modern crowd of lores people here: https://www.renderosity.com/marketplace/products/161672/lowrez-people-sitting-for-daz-studio

The same vendor has a set of standing lores roman people who could be a standing gladiatorial crowd.

I make crowds with 12 full fat genesis 8 figures, with surfaces stripped down to the minimum and lots of instances.

seen those and think they are Meshy AI

I can do my own locally on my PC almost for free (just electricity) with Hunyuan 3D AI

Which ones? The Now-Crowd ones are just flat planes - they'll take any texture really - just need the opacity maps (and a ton of patience for rendering out all the angles, even with automation).

The Colosseum ones appear to be just a bunch of characters in a grid (with some wasted space it seems). The length of billboard has been cut as a uv-map into rectangles and arranged top to bottom. I'd have to bring it into Blender to get more info. Not sure how you're getting "all the same figure"?

the ones Protozoon includes in the colosseum

    using as is OK

animated image render scripts give the same figure

it's also quite painful to set up as need to do cutout opacity and so many surfaces

I loathe how DAZ studio handles image animation at the best of times and that set impossible to export to other software

Filament does render them, but the way it does with cutout opacity

the video is of the Hunyuan meshes created from the billboard images I am slowly populating it with duplicated  instances
