Just looking for info, really, as this is a new concept for me but I've seen them advertised a lot recently. How do these VR goggles work and would they be any use for viewing IRay renders? Or is there a special render format? Are they 3D (as in stereoscopic rather than a 3D mesh rendered in IRay)?

I notice that there is a huge price range from a few dollars to hundreds - what would be OK for viewing DAZ renders (if it is possible)?

[EDIT] I did a search and found that the subject has come up before but the people discussing it seem to know the technology already. Here's an example:

Our family has a set up for VR we bought it last summer for like $250 on one of those Amazon prime specials its a Oculus Rift S for PC  VR Gaming Headset , We( hubby mostly) use it to play games on really great head set, my husband has a 2080ti in is w10 system but i can run it on my windows 7  with a 1080ti with no problems, ours set has ear buds for surround sound to match the goggles. ,  I would have no idea how i could even begin to make anything with daz that could run on this vr head set Maybe you could use Unity or UE4 to build your virtual stages,  but i would not know the file formats or how to compile them into VR I know some are in iMax ,Though I have seen on Youtube where people have used Google Labs to make VR stuff for YT .
I think it be cool as heck though to use daz in vr  I would make a slew of Virtual hot men. laugh.devil

Thanks @Ivy. Yes, since then I have bought the Oculus Rift S and have been playing with it. Managed to view a couple of DAZ characters in VR/Stereoscopic mode too but, unlike the person who gave us the stereoscopic camera, I was not able to work in that mode (specifically posing). I still have a lot to explore but am enjoying the experience so far.

  • Been doing a little side reading on this in my spare time. From what I can tell, at least for my purposes, Unreal engine might be the way to go. Supposedly Unreal has better graphic capabilities, like photo realistic, and since I am not trying to make a game, obtaining the highest fidelity would be my goal. Although it seems like both Unity and Unreal have been making strides in this area. In the post below there is a YouTube video of someone importing a Gen 3 figure into Unreal.

  • this subject is one of my obsessions...im very frustrated as i have another renderer that does stereo vr images really easily but the ammount of effort to transfer the daz figures over is a real art killer for me...

but daz is almost there ...with its dforce capabilities and iray the possibilities could be endless if only they would go that extra inch and create a virtual stereo 360 camera ...

i have been patiently twidling my thumbs for years waiting for this to come along ....i have all the hardware.

  • I think DAZ needs to add another renderer engine in the options that renders things in real time, like UE engine. I don't think VR is feasible for IRAY especially for rendering VR movies. If one scene takes about 2 hours to render it will take 5 years to render a 2 minute movie LOL

    90 fps x 120 sec x 2 eyes x 2 hours / 24 hours / 365 days = 5 years

    Heh, the numbers don't lie.

I found this today in my Google partnership help section on making VR videos for Youtube. https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/6316263?hl=en&ref_topic=9257783

It didn't look to hard to do , but it does require some pretty high resolutions and massive image sizes . If I remember right i believe Wendy had dabbled in 360 videos on yotube for a while

    Hi guys,
    I made a VR 360 ° 3D image with DAZ. It's not full 3D but a mix of 2D background and 4 scenes 3D assembled in Photoshop.
I really had a lot of trouble developing this and it takes a long time to do.

I'm making a more complex VR 360 3D in a Japanese street with girls, guns and monster inspired of the manga anim Gantz:0 (Netflix)

That's amazing, I hope people post more 3d scenes on their galleries so we can all watch them in VR. :)

i make my comic book, and i want sometime make a vr 360 or 3D for the fun. I will put again others test and i hope the other artists do same. Thank for David and Wendy. ho yes, i see your youtube in vr helmet , i like asian street, but i think is very long for render this !!! If i wait 5 minutes for render one picture, for 2 minutes video need 10 days rendering !!!   i made a pirate taverne with 3 lights, just one picture i stop after 30 hours and it's not good ! :,(

i see this in 3D VR, it's nice !  perhaps you know in the App Within

    and have making of here...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxQo168vdQs

  • I actually did a 3D one but Youtube flagged it for the music, they didn't even name the right artist and since it was not my music difficult to dispute so had to remove it. It was a public domain tune Greensleaves but covered by a different artist to the one they wanted to monitise it to so I thought that grossly unfair, I stuffed up and used a Facebook royalty free sound library recording by mistake.

It took too long to do to be bothered reuploading as the metadata would need to be reinjected after replacing the track in the only mp4 container capable compositing software I have that handles such sized videos namely Blender!

I don't enjoy video editing in Blender very much so let it go.
