Always like chatting with someone who approaches the technical from an artist approach first. Not that techno chat like the other guys do isn't really valuable. But evaluating from a workflow perspective is just more my thing and seems to be kinda your way too?
Maybe they'll announce a new ti series this fall, and I'll wish that I had waited and be asking you for videos to show how the worklflow in DS has improved

When you posted your first streamable in this thread, i checked them out already, cos I have been looking for a vid-hosting site causally. They have no "About" and their IP is through Fastly. Their contact is just a web email. They could be totally fine, and probably are. Just makes me a bit twitchy that they have made no effort to say who they are or where they are from.

There is no doubt your perf is better than mine but not as much as I thought it should be. The question that raises for me is if that's hardware limit or software limit or a mix of both. I've been reading a bit and Optix may have not be optimized for dynamic scene.
You should try the latest DS beta 4.12. With the new Optix,the viewport is more fluid. And with two RTX you may test the VRAM Pooling if you have NVLink

I've done some tests and for the moment I am not sure there are that much gain with RTCores in raytracing but there are at least big gains in the preview performance
I also fear that some things you see as performance issues might be me. My background in PvP/FPS games has trained me to be real fine with the mouse. I constantly find myself rotating and panning in small increments while recording these vids instead of large, coarse movements that I think you guys really want to see.
Not at all, your vid was quite good and I saw what I wanted to see. I saw no problem with your movements.
If you were to use DS 4.12 beta I'm pretty sure that with the same scene and if you were to do the same movement, you'd see that the viewport will be more fluid. Since you're a gamer I'm sure you'll sense that you get more "fps" from the viewport
I'll see if i can try 4.12 this evening after work. I am not as hopeful as I was before reading through RayDAnt's new "Daz Studio Iray - Rendering Hardware Benchmarking" post. Looks like things are actually slowing down if I am interpreting "iteration rate" correctly =/
Not for rendering but just for the viewport performance.
The same scene from the video I posted where Iray viewport FPS was low is now comparable to what you have in your video
So With your cards, I think you'll have a bigger boost than me
I am still experimenting but in some case, it is possible to do posing in interactive mode with Iray preview without switching back to OpenGL. I know the interactive mode is not used generally, and you need a bit of adaptation to use it because the shading is not quite the same as in Photoreal mode but I personally find it very usefull
I'm curious to is there less lag when posing and moving the placement of objects in iray for the viewport with the new 2080ti?

It seems you didn't have any boost from the 4.12. Is your primary display on a PCIe 3.0 x 16 slot ?
There are other questions regarding configuration like : Are your two Gfx card on PCIe 3.0 x16 slots ? Does your CPU provide enough PCIe lanes ?If you have NVLink, is there some specific configuration to get maximum viewport performance
Since the GPU display goes through the PCIe bus, it's speed may be the limiting factor and that was the purpose of my requests. If you could tell me what for CPU and motherboard you have, as well as the slot where you plugged the GPUs It could give me some hint to guess what is happening
For the Zoom problem, I guess that's because you have a finite sphere as environment and when you zoom out you go outside of the sphere and that could happen. If you set it to infinite sphere you
may zoom out more but the environment dimension may be off

My system is pretty old (atm). Running an I7 4790, 1150/DDR3 architecture. Mostly have not needed to upgrade until I got back into rendering. Been hitting some high heat with these 2080ti cards, may go ahead and upgrade just to have a better separation of cards for better air flow. As I said, my system is fairly old overall, if I need to I can upgrade to whatever works. Cost is not an issue per se, but I'd like to know it will make a difference before building up a new system.
I understand your questions around the PCI bus, but most of my research has indicated that it's actually pretty hard to saturate. (By all means, change my mind... you probably know more than what my google-fu has found, I've just been digging into Octane/VRay blogs) I am currently running dual displays off one of the cards. Might be another reason to just go ahead and upgrade the m/b to run the display off my old 1060 and open up the 2080s (though I am a little peeved at Win10 grabbing VRAM from non display cards)

I have no problem going ahead and upgrading to i9, 10 or 12 core. Been meaning to anyway. Been thinking about ASUS TUF X299 MARK 2 as a base and building up from there. (I don't tend to OC, so just DDR4-2666, probably max the board out w/128gb). Also considering the Asus WS C621E SAGE with 12-15 core Xeons and 256gb RAM. As a software engineer, I'd dig the dual CPUs for the VM's I run, though I don't think it would help much with this hobby compared to the gfx cards.
It's not that I want to make you buy new hardware. I just try to analyse and it's a bit too soon to draw definitive conclusions
Your CPU has max 16 lanes. So it means that depending on your motherboard and peripherals, you have at best two PCIe 3.0 at 8x and perhaps one PCIe 2.0 at 4x
Eventually there is a slight chance that your MB has a PCIe Switch integrated the very best would be four PCIE 3.0 at 8x lanes
The theories and benchmark about saturing the PCIe bus have all been made for two distinct situations that I'm not sure apply here
- Pure gaming : many test showed that there is a marginal difference between PCIe 3.0 x8 and PCIE 3.0 x16.
But the gaming workload is far from what we have here within DS
- Rendering test : Same here, the workload is different. Most rendering workload test involve offline rendering where all datas are transfered to the GPU which then proceeds to the rendering without the need of further high performance communication as only a still image in progress completion is shown
The Iray workload is pretty much different and I guess that a way to measure the PCIe communication is necessary to really know if the Iray Viewport workload saturates your PCIe bandwith and what would maximize the viewport performance
I also said that what may limit the performance could be Optix itself because it is not designed for dynamic updated scenes (sounds logical since we were mostly doing offline rendering)
I can advise you on future hardware, but for the moment, we could do a few tests before if you agree ?. You have better hardware than me and you should have superior performance
