Happy 2014 to all on the other side of the International Date Line

could you work at a pub? pouring drafts and listening to people complain about their exes.
...I've actually been considering that, however it would have to be within walking/bike distance as I do not drive and our "nation's best" transit system sees fit to stop running more than an hour before the pubs close in many areas of town.

    ...and that's on weekdays.

Taxis are horribly expensive here too as well. Just from downtown to home (about a twelve minute ride) costs about 15$ w/o tip. That's 75$ for a five day week.

It's no wonder we have so many DUI's here, which is why I plan to just stay home tonight.

Buses here are free after 20:00 tonight, but they are running only their normal schedules with no added late night runs. There are extra late runs on the light rail system however, the nearest station is a hefty walk away (usually involves two bus transfers to get there).

thought about not going straight home to my empty place and going out for martinis,
but decided to pick up some godiva to make chocolate martinis at home.
still have some o' that potato vodka at home.

i don't want to go home at all. foxtrot. but a last minute hotel on new years eve might be a bit ridiculous.

...I'm getting nothing but a blank window.

That kind of move (clear across the country) is pretty much impossible for me anyway as I don't have the resources to afford it. It's not just getting there, but having enough to find and secure a place to live, and be able to survive until the first paycheque (provided I was hired). Were I able to relocate, I would first do research on an area/city to make sure there is adequate transit, rents were affordable, and that I wouldn't be living in, working in, or have to travel through a bad/dangerous neighbourhood (Portland is actually rather "benign" compared to most major cities when it comes to crime, including my old hometown of Milwaukee).

Even so, if I had the money, my first choice would be Austin as I'd want to go where it's warmer most of the year, where they have a decent transit system, and it's not as wet as it is here.

...probably. Just checked my online hotel service, and the first available check in day it shows is tomorrow.

I'll most likely be here on the forums tonight. Heading out to get a few things for tonight and tomorrow at the market in a bit.

I decided to bring this back from the dead. To me this was one of the best times we users had here.. as so many were involved...
May old friends be not forgotten...

    Hey diddle diddle,
    The Cat and the fiddle,
The Squirrel jumped over the moon
    The Loach said "Gimme!"
    Skiriki said "Pony!"
And Chohole and DAZ said "Soon!"

    Hey diddle diddle,
    The Cat and the fiddle,
The Squirrel jumped over the moon

And he came back with a present,
That was soon installed in your car,
    He meant you no harm,
But now you fear that Alarm,
When folks get too close by far.

    Hey diddle diddle,
    The Cat and the fiddle,
The Squirrel jumped on your hood

Beep, Beep, Beep, Beep, WheeNa, WheeNa, WheeNa, WhooOP! WhooOP! WhooOP!

Would *you* please turn that thing off?!!

With a ping and a pang the the alarm loudly spoke!
The squirrel jumped off the hood
You'll never take me alive, it croaked
waving a club made of wood

When you came outside pumping the button,
That should end all the clamerious commotion,
Doors did crack and Windows flew open,
Many of your neighbors angry at your alarms notion,

Mr. Squirrel off down the street he did go,
With you chasing him down the street so,
A leap and bound and a up a tree he found,
Leaving you peering up from the ground,

Your neighbors were not pleased with your quest,
You had disturbed them and all their guest,
Many a gesture and harsh words were passed,
As you stood under the tree in utter aghast,

From his perch on high the squirrel did leap,
To a limb next to you I do think,
With a blow that felt like Judge Dredd,
The little bugger laid that club upside your head,

And my friend that is why you were found,
With a lump on your head and laying on the ground,
When the police finally came around,
All just because of that annoying alarm sound.

    hehhehheh...

...so then what did I did see
But a little red hared girl who smiled with glee
as she affixed a few charges on the trunk of said tree.

She stepped stepped back and smiled
    at tentacled rodent so riled
    as it chittered at her
    tentacles writhing in a blur

Then she waved and said "bye"
as the tree blew sky high
    and the tentasquirrel cried.
with his last gasp, "oh my"

And, in a shower of splinters
    like snowflakes in winter
ended the reign of this most abominable bane.
And all was quite as still as could be
Then to the left and the right all around you see
A pop a flash some twinkles of light
As hundreds of Tentasquierls grew into sight

Call the Army the Navy the Football team
We have a situation here plain to be seen
I looked at the red haired girl as she screamed
That should have worked it did in the dream

    ...and will our sweet child
    with tress coloured as fire
find a way to make right
    her misdeed of last night?

but will not soldiers and sailors
    or professional sports team
    be but yet another failure
    to end this terrible dream?

    But patience my dear friends
who wish to see foul rodent's end
    The story will go on
    until our heroine has won.

..interesting, picked up a couple bottles of "real" Coke (the kind from Mexico that uses real sugar instead of that yucky corn sweetener - there is definitely a difference) and having one now. Pizza's in the oven (salami ,sausage and ham),

Picked up a bottle of my favourite Spanish sherry, a fresh jar of herring in Wine, crackers, and a block of Swiss cheese for later.

    Let the festivities begin.
