Vanishing Cursor

I guess this falls under the  umbrella of Technical Help, so here goes.  Lately while working in DS my mouse cursor just, POOF!!, disappears. I know it's still there 'cause i can see the reaction when the cursor rolls over clickable portions of the screen. When this happe?ns, I wrangle the cursor to the red-x close button and either do the same with save or not. Any ideas

    Click in the viewport selection rectangle
