    I'm just dropping this here:

HiveWire has extended Dawn's "free" status until December 31st.

    So good news, indeed~

    BTW...What room is that?

    :-)

...um...well...it's just to flattened cubes with a couple of windows hole punched in one of them, done in Bryce. Everything else in the room, and there's a bunch of stuff in that room, are all freebies available around the web. I'll see if I can't post a good picture of the whole set-up. I sort of got carried away putting stuff in it. It did it as an exercise to work on my lighting, but after I finished I thought to myself, y'know, Louie would like dis place...For this particular render none of all that stuff is really there...sort of. The whole background is a 2D flat with a Bryce render on it. I'm such a cheat...

Oh yeah...t'anks fer d'kind woids everybody!

I almost never go to the home page. I have the forums as one of my home pages in Firefox, and my account page as another. Along with fgplus2 forums, my site's home page and Renderosity Prime page 1.

Come now, ladies, gentlemen, barbarians, Amazons, Visigoths all! It is the second weekend of the month--- it's even a Four-Day Holiday Weekend for some of us!--- and we've only seen one render? This is only the Most Dangerous Game, so stop hiding under your beds and come play! There's nothing to be afraid of!

(Bob, put the cannonballs down now. Bob! Are you even listening? GET BACK OVER HERE WITH THAT!!)

Question, can a paid renderer (Luxus) count towards your 3 paid for items?

  • ChoholeChohole Posts: 33,604

n the past we have said that only free render engines can be used, if an alternative renderer is used.

However Music will be the one who can confirm that.

So here is my opinion of a Dangerous Game. This render is not a true representation of the actions of that day. I have taken some significant transgressions to create my picture.

    Deadman's Hand

On August 2 of the Lord's year 1876, "Wild Bill" Hickok would meet his maker. Slain by the worthless-vile low life Jack McCall. Hickok knew he should always play the game with his back to the wall but that day he did not follow his own rules. The result was the loss of his life. A very high price to pay for playing the game of poker.

Yeah but the look on his face tells me...he knows! Card players back then had a gift for reading peoples eyes, and I am sure the guy facing him sees the gunman.

Oh dear I have mislead you Music on how I did that boarder. It was not applied after the render but is a part of the scene. That was what the flower was used for. I also used a hand of cards and a plane primitive. I created a texture with the words Deadman's Hand and a transmap. I have attached both if you ever want to use it yourself. Behind the flower, the plane and the hand of cards I placed the top of Sannzi's window frame. I used the textures from Mapp's General Store walls to make the frame blend in with the rest of the scene. Below are the links to the items that were used in the border.

Prop: Flower Marigold by mambanegra. flower
Décor: Cards and Chips * Jim's Playing Cards by Jim Farris (Xaa).
Décor: Window Moving Frame 01 by Sannzi.

My poke through was around the end of Quester's gun. DAZ gave me all white pixels so I turned them into grey ones. I guess the mapping is not quite right for that area.

Also I used a primitive plane as the window of the Saloon. I created a texture for this plane and then set the opacity to 59%. I have attached the image for the window as well. If you ever need one. Nuttal and Mann owned several saloons I guess so the saloon that Hickok was shot in was no 10. So that is why I did the texture the way I did. The jpgs are public domain. You can use them any way you want.

    Nice one, DollyGirl@ Entry Accepted!

    Thanks Eustace, Music and Kismet.

It was fun doing the research for this one. It seems that from the eye-witness accounts that everyone was ignoring McCall and that when he drew his gun the players were all looking at their cards. Hickok had glaucoma. I have a friend that has that and his field of vision is diminished greatly, like non-existent, he can only see straight ahead, because of the disease. So Hickok probably didn't even see the man change stance just before he was shot.

It would be wonderful if someone did a character for M4 or Genesis of Hickok. I read Mrs. General Custer's description of Hickok and I can see why the ladies all fell in love with him, big, tall and comely. He had a way with the words too. I feel my efforts are way to amateurish.

Thank you for playing in the challenge Estroyer. We love having you. Here is the answer to your question. The Lux render engine is used mainly here along with the Reality plugin. The host for this month has made this stipulation for renderers:

Thanks and I'd love to chime in :)
My english may be failing me here, but in your answer you say that lots of people use Lux or Reality and then you ppoint to the rules where it states that only a free renderer may be used.
It confuses me, because Reality isn't free :)
For now I might go and wrestle with Lux then...

...It would be wonderful if someone did a character for M4 or Genesis of Hickok. I read Mrs. General Custer's description of Hickok and I can see why the ladies all fell in love with him, big, tall and comely. He had a way with the words too. I feel my efforts are way to amateurish.

You might be disappointed. What we think of as handsome or pretty is not the same as years back. It gets worse the further back you go. From what I've read, Cleopatra was not all that by today's standards. When they said he was handsome, it might have meant that he still had all his hair and teeth. I could be wrong. Are there actually photographs of him? ...yes, there are!
