Tricks for Speeding Up IRAY Renders with MAC CPU?

Can I upgrade my MAC somehow (without NVIDIA card)? How much does the size of the render (pixels by pixels) effect the speed of the render? How much does the amount of content in the scene effect it? Can a render be done somehow in layers, or smaller segments? I'm trying to save a couple of thousand dollars on a PC.
Thanks!

Reducing the number of objects in the scene will help. Keeping the number of walls down will help, iray does raytracing so any reflections add bounces that have to calculated. Thesize of the output image has some impact but not as much as other things. Yes you can dot layers, there is a spot render tool for that. You can also reduce the size of textures using the scene optimizer script which will get you a noticeable reduction in render time.
Note none of these are going to result in very fast renders in iray. Your best bet is to switch to 3Delight which is a CPU only render engine. there are fewer items in the shop with meterials for it but it should be faster on your Mac
You can do renders in layers using the spot render tool? I thought that tool just renders a small area of the image. Or is there another spot render tool?
You can have it render sections, and open up in a new window to enable easy stitching together. Go to Tool settings with the spot renderer selected to change it.
If it renders in sections, does that save rendering time? Or is the total time taken for all of the sections to render equal to the amount of time it would take to just render the whole scene at once?
I don't mean to derail the above discussion, but I've been in the same slow Iray rendering boat as Fauvist. I'd been using 3Delight and resigned myself to not being able to use all of the cool Iray toys that everyone else can.
Then I got this (https://www.daz3d.com/ibl-master-for-daz-studio). I tought it'd be a cool tool for my 3Delight renders but it's proven to be AMAZING at reducing the amount of time for my Iray renders as well. Fauvist, I imagine you were looking for a non-commercial way to reduce rendering times, but I've had great luck with this product. Combined with Dimension Theory's iRadiance products (like this one:https://www.daz3d.com/iradiance--light-probe-hdr-lighting-for-iray--expansion-6), IBL Master's been a big plus in my DAZ Library.
I'm not sure what Parris does to get IBL Master to speed renderings. I'm a huge Iray novice. Perhaps you can glean something from the promotional material and from any notes here on the forums?
I think it adds up to the same amount of time. But you don't need to spend all of that time all at once.
Not sure if this would help at all, Fauvist. I was reminded last night how using the products I listed above is great for portraits of single characters, but is not so great with a large scene with metals and reflections and such.
I'd done some Googling a couple of months ago and found this: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208544
I've been using DAZ Studio on a MacBook Pro so the article above offered something for me. Not sure what your setup is, but maybe it'll offer some possible avenues to explore.
Thanks for sharing this. I also just found THIS! I don't know if DAZ3d will work with it, or if it's just for games. https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/products/geforce-now/
I don't think that will help you. AS I understand it, you don't get low level access to the system the GPU is on just some sort of game launcher.
