One of the things that gets me are the "sets" that are offered that are so oddly incomplete. Apartments that lack all the rooms necessary to be lived in. Even studio apartments. You get a selection of rooms, but not all. Yet they are presented as if they are entire and complete structures. I don't need the interior and exterior necessarily - but all the room, yes.
And the outfits in the Pro(Whatever), they're so inferior to any outfit offered separately - the morphs alone, irrespective of d-force are simply non-existant. The hairs are the only things in the Pro packs possibly the equal of "normal" releases despite their equivalent costs.

The problem is that you want that 4k texture if your camera is 5 inches from a character's face, and totally don't if the character is over there by the other building.
Beanoutback, the assertion of "low quality" in your in post is an abstraction. What specifically is shaping your point of view and perception?
I would love a review system; I don't necessarily know how much ratings help, but reviews certainly would. And while errors may be user errors, it could be helpful for a newbie to see those reviews and determine that the product isn't for them because of their skill level.
Rendo has a review system, but most products there lack reviews.
I find about the same percentage of products reviewed at Daz, it's just done via forums instead of a comment list associated directly with the product.
I like the Daz forum reviews because they often include helpful images.
Statistically only 30 samples are needed
I've read Rendo reviews and decided to buy products based on them. I've also bought plenty of products there without any reviews. Can't say a review has stopped me from buying over there that I remember yet.
Well, it's certainly stopped me. With no guarunteed return policy, buying a product from Rendo is a lot more risky and there are a number of products over there that I would have purchased except for someone else posting that the item had a major issue. And there was also one particular case where it was the PA's attitude in responding to someone who'd had an issue that made me decide not to buy anything from that vendor.
I think there is confusion between reviews and customer support.
If an item is broken, and the issue can be replicated, that should be submitted to customer support as a ticket. Thereby, we can be notified and fix the issue and get out an update.
Reviews, OTOH, are more for cases of its a great product, or its a bad product and why. And that sometimes can be very debatable just on taste. And yes, broken can fall under here, if the vendor has simply refused to sort the problem. I dont think reviews should be used in the case something might be broken, and no one has been notified or given a chance to fix said issue. Thats abuse.
The biggest issue with reviews, is that people tend to wield and abuse them. And as already mentioned, sometimes its a user error. So yeah, I would totally vote against reviews. Fact is, DAZ tried them ages ago.... and here we are, with none (for good reason)
Most PA's are pretty dilligent with fixing any issues customers find. And for those who don't, theres a return policy in place.
On the subject of quality... with time, taste changes. The things I bought when I first started are not things Id ever buy now. Because after 15 yrs, my perception of quality and what I look for in products has changed (and some of that is vicariously thru making them) So I think its a perception thing. And barring broken or dysfunctional items, its very much also opinion
LOL, I'm much pickier at Rendo than I am at DAZ 3D and i'm pretty picky at DAZ 3D, although out of over a 1000 items purchased I've returned less than 5 items, not to say many of the other items I've purchased didn't deserve to be returned but that total is probably less than 10% of the items I've bought.
The guaranteed return policy is a BIG part of what got me into Daz when I first started.
+1
....same here for me though it wasn't usually quality (save for one old car model where the curves on parts like the tyres and wheel rims were jagged instead of smooth and usung the smoothing modifier or SubD distorted it more) but the fact that tehcontent just required too much in resoruces to use or render.
I have a couple of those very high resource products and a laptop with intel GPU from 2012 but since i liked them and could still render them using the memory optimization I kept thoise products anyway.
It'd have to be a comaparatively smaller number of stars for male items, though. As we keep getting told, male items don't sell
Has Daz given instructions? Any time I turn up stiffness to "heavy wool" or "denim" levels I get splodey. This isn't the add-on system again, is it? Because, while it is great for what it does and I have made extensive use of it, it doesn't do that.
I agree with RawArt, Lyoness and other veteran PAs in this thread. I especially don't want to see reviews because I make products that are technical and have prerequisites, and 80% of the complaints I get are from people who ignored the prereqs (for example, they bought the Slime set when they'd never used dForce before, or they bought the restraint sets and didn't watch the instructions and now they are angry at me because the product has inevitable limitations that were covered in the video linked from the product page).
Not really; if it only becomes valid at a certain number, then showing it for fewer results is just misleading.
Did you adjust the Simulation Settings to give it more iterations to diffuse the energy from the springs?
I don't know if I'd use star rating system, but I would like to see a link from a product page to the product's forum thread. If the product does not have a thread, that also speaks for itself. I don't mean that PAs have to be there 24/7 for eternity doing customer support, but during first few days customers usually have questions, and hopefully those who buy that product later, also find the answers there. I can't speak for others, but at least I remember those PAs who make that little extra effort to help their customers.
When it comes to product quality, I'm still on the G3 train, so can't really comment on the new outfits, but environments and stuff like that seem pretty much same quality to me.
Sounds like PA's are generally not in favor, and buyers would like something. I am not a proponent of stars/ratings, because those are meaningless to me unless I read the reviews. And I'm not suggesting that reviews be a place for customer support, since that would be the wrong use of a review, but it could be helpful for buyers to see what people have to say about it. Some products have great descriptions; others have very little/close to nothing compared to the complexity of the product. Reviews could be a good way to fill the gap where there's neither forum posts (which are hard to find now without the plugin) nor detailed descriptions.
A return policy isn't a cure-all. I've been busy enough to start using something only after the 30-day period and be outside of the return window. And I mean, I buy a LOT of stuff, so much that I can't reasonably use within 30 days even if I had more time (yes, I have a problem, and DAZ is my main source of entertainment/hobby spending). That said, I can write reviews on Rendo but haven't found the time to really write any so who knows if having reviews would be helpful if not a lot of people actually write them.
Better than reviews, what you have at this site that you dont have in most stores are forums where you can ask specific questions about products and get proper answers, either from the pa's who make them or other customers who use them.
That is far more valuable than questionable reviews that you have no idea if they were made by someone with questionable intent, or just does not know how to use the product properly.
That coupled with daz's no question asked return policy shold be more than enough keep shopping here a great experience. That is what we are all working toward.
For those of us in the know, the forums are great. But I understand the percentage of people who use the forums are low compared to actual buyers, and in the beginning, it was not intuitive for me that I should search Google for specific topics rather than the forums themselves, or that I needed an add-on to get links to forum topics relating to a specific product.
Shopping here is a good experience, at least for me. Still, I don't think it hurts to discuss how it may be improved further.
I read reviews, and I do sometimes base my purchases on them - not when they are negative, but when they are informative. I also look at attached gallery pics to glean information that otherwise is impossible to get; did you use this on a different character and get it to work, did the materials work okay in 3Delight even though they are meant for Iray, was it easy to use? These are things I'd love to see in product descriptions, but, of course, they can't be there... because it isn't something you can get from the producer, it's information from the other users. Yes, in theory you can search the Forum here on Daz... but that can take a lot of time, and if I have a question I can't answer, I don't buy.
A lot of the clothing I've purchased lately don't seem to come with any helpful morphs anymore. Nothing (or very little in the wrong places) for help with the fit, and absolutely nothing for other wear options. My generation 4 content is absolutely stocked to the brim with helpful morphs and very well made textures. Some of my newer purchases simply cannot be used yet. I am learning my way into making the needed morphs, but it's not working out yet entirely to my satisfaction. Some of them are made of trigons and they really go out of whack when soft selection is used. Strange stuff. Not blaming the vendor - not blaming anybody. Just something I've noticed.
The content I've bought that has nothing to do with people, like environments, vehicles and props, however, have been blowing me away with absolute feelings of Bliss! Having so much fun!
I've been rendering since Poser 4 so I have no doubt whatsoever that quaiity takes quantum leaps as each year passes. The point is moot because dedicated artists could produce images just as good 20 years ago as those today. Isn't that what it's all about?
If you have the Daz Deals browser add-ons it adds a link to threads about the product on product page
Part of the agreement PAs have with Daz is that Daz handles customer support. Official PA threads in the forums are quite nice and useful, but that's extra work from the PA, not something that should be expected.
I like the system we have now. I always check the new character threads to see Laurie and Diva's 'out of the box' renders to see what the character really looks like, and check out Serene's comments on the new males. And then there is Novica's terrific thread! Too bad that it is sort of hidden away in the Art Studio area where a new customer may not even know to look. It would be cool if Daz would link the character's forum\comments page to the sale page ( not by using an add on ). I would delete all the comments discussing the merits of the freebies or bundle deals once the sale is over- as they have nothing to do with the model itself.Customer's who rarely use the forum would get a heads up that there is a lot of helpful info here.
It is not self evident to a new person looking at the store that you can swap out skins, dial in percents of other models, and use a ton of morphs and tools like FaceGen to totally personalize and form your character.I had a friend that was totally blown away when he saw what people had done in the Ollie thread!
I have seen ratings and reviews turn into a popularity contest in other forums, and that is just useless, for me.
