Looking for an Asset: Geoshell Bodyhair

Are there any G8 Geoshell based Bodyhair options for males and females?

I don't want to use a physical mesh version due to the time it adds to rendering and general extra chug when doing stuff. :p

The only Geoshell hair product I'm aware of is Jepe's Project Hairy 456 for Daz Studio. I was able to use hair for the torso on a G8 male with a shirt covering where it was cut off at the shoulders; the main character in this render. (View the image at full-resolution to see the hair better. It's a large image.) I used fiber mesh hair for the arms, though. (RedzStudios' Oh My Body Hair for G3M, sold at Rendo.)

I think it would be wonderful if Jepe came out with a G3/G8 version.

There's this at Renderosity; there is also one for G8; I only have the G3, and it works ok on G8, at least the times I've tried it.

... I thought I'd seen one for G3 or 8 females, but not found it so far.

    I don't think that's geoshell based?

    It's not, good point.

Project Hairy is exactly the one I was thinking of... and why I'm asking if there's a Gen-8 version of something close to the same.

I perfer Geo-shell for stuff like body hair over Exnem's because its both less finiky and less resource intensive. Having a couple characters with full modeled body hair will do terrible things to performance. It's why I almost universally try and fit older hairs to my new figures. Daz has a wonderful Geograph functionality. People need to use it more.

    BTW, noice render.

    Thank you.

I knew the scene was going to be resource intensive, even though I used instances as much as possible, and was really hoping I could get the geoshell hair to work. My efforts in photoshop to move and expand on the arm hair didn't work, but I got the chest hair working with only a bit of vertical offset. (I moved it up a bit on his torso.)

If Jepe ever updates Project Hairy for G3/G8 and beyond, it will be an instant buy for me.

I just discovered an insane trick on how to get any part from a previous rendition of genesis to fit a new one...

Fit the pervious version of genesis to the new one. Works with tails, works with skins. Can be made to work with at least simple Geoshells like body hair, just add a smoothing layer and make it interact with the body.

Ugh, tell me about it. Fibermesh KILL my viewport performance, even with my 2080 TI if I have 2-3 figures with fibermesh (hey G8 eyebrows) I get a significant performance loss.

Agreed. I don't want Fibermesh body hair or even hair hair unless I'm zoomed in very close.

Just give me a decent Geoshell. We have the option for a reason...

For body hair I just figured out... Geomorph a Genesis 2 Male to your figure, give it full smoothing, and toss on your maps of choice. I managed to get full body hair working on a FEMALE WEREWOLF with anatomical elements by mucking about with that and it looks GOOD rendered. Doing it on a fully dressed male is child's play...

Also seems to do a good job with some attached item like tails that normally lose thier bones. Managed to get a tail for the Genesis 2 male working perfectly on Genesis 8 without a hitch.

To be honest, after the fibermesh hair appeared more and more as "the" solution to everybody, I thought my concept of using geoshells with painted on hair could be dumped and would not have a use anymore. But more and more I also hear about the downsides, especially when the resources for scenes with fibermesh hair are limited by the hardware or when really detailed hair is not that necessary cause the figure isn't in close up sight.

    Conclusion: G3/G8 - I'm working on it! :)

Oh that is great news! I really like fibermesh body hair, but I always liked the look of your previous offerings and having both options available would be wonderful. Besides, most current options for the latest generations don't make the belly as furry as I like :) .

I wish oso fur was a good solution for this.

But... oh man, it so isn't. ;)

(scattered very precise hairs is almost the diametric opposite of what it's good for)

YES! (Double fist pump above my head!)

That's the best news I've heard in a long time. And on the 3D front, there has been a lot of good news, i.e. products, in the past several months.

Thank you. This is going to be insanely useful.

That looks great! I guess you could convert the geoshell to work with a woman if you want the bearded lady effect... or a dwarf. What a visual.
  • this is bodyhair only, I'm not sure if I should make painted on beards again

I think the practicality tilts towards doing fibermesh for beards and geoshell for body hair.

With body hair, you have a huge number of hairs, few of which are often in view. Bodyhair is often covered by clothing, which brings up collision and pokethrough issues with fibermesh.

With beards, you often want a lot of dimension, for anything except very close stubble. Beards aren't usually subject to collision/pokethrough (at least not until it gets very long). And in close up headshots, which are common, any lack of dimension is going to become more pronounced.

  • I'd buy that

    totally agree :)

I’ve run into this with fur. Modeling or faking body fur is cool but accuracy is slooow and good luck throwing on clothes!

  • I get your point, but based on Jepe's preview I don't think I will care about throwing clothes on that anyway smiley .

    Looks good Jepe!

Hehe. Thank you for your kind words. :)

Here's another current screenshot that reveals that the new bodyhair (Project 78) is for (all) G3Ms and G8Ms, with and without genital support and with 3Delight and Iray Presets. 34 different chest hair options.
