I was trying to think of an answer to this other forum topic ... but realized I swing the other way. So ... (Finish this sentence. I'll start!)

) You are forced to learn Hexagon modeling and UV shading for those impossible to find items ...

) You have become an expert at kit bashing and unusual camera perspectives

[ EDIT : this topic is primarily geared for people with a huge 3d database rather than those who genuinely only have a few items ].

You find out the particular item you need for a render is not in your content nor is on sale (or if it is, it still costs more than your budget allows.)

  • kyoto kidkyoto kid Posts: 41,861

...specific items you need are only available on very expensive sites like Turbosquid and 3D Trader.

You run the numbers and it's cheaper to hire live models and shoot photos on location than to buy all the 3D assets you need for a render.

  • ...your hard-drive still has a little room

...you're still shopping at Daz/etc and excited about  every sale

  • Your credit card isn't screaming in pain. indecision

  • When you can’t find a decent tomato plant for your garden renders.... heh heh.

You think of having an adobe Stock account to get 3D assets to pad your content.

You feel a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced... and your immediate instinct is to frantically run and open the DAZ website in order to see which of the artists' products you had wishlisted have been unexpectedly pulled from the store.

You know you don't have enough when you remember your old Bryce days of hunting the internet for props and used Poser only to get stuff to put in your Bryce pictures.

That means you will purchase a product just for the hat it includes (yesterday) or a fully furnished room for the chair you liked (day before)

    Familiar? laugh

You know exactly how many PC+ items you can buy with the largest amount of blood the local blood bank will let you donate at a time.

You research how to put cash on your PayPal account so Victoria can have a new outfit or Michael can get a new dresser or etc.

    You wake up!

You sit through the end credits of all the big Marvel and Star Wars releases and actually read the credits in hopes of finding out the names of the products used and the stores that they came from.

When you don't have a schoolbus!

Why are school buses so hard to find?!

  • kyoto kidkyoto kid Posts: 41,861

.."real" looking transit buses as well.  The only ones I can find are on pro sites or not in a format Daz can read.

  • School Buses and Transit Buses !!!!!!! Exactly. With as many bus stops as Daz Studio has, you would think some more buses to go with them would be in order.

...the only one I can find is an old highway bus over on Rendo.  There used to be one for Bryce which needed coversion for Daz.

There are a few freebies, but most are in .MAX format or GTA, which need conversion and reskinning in a modelling programme

When you're looking for a basball uniform and you can only find caps and bats (Don't get me started. Seriously).

  • When you want to create a beach scene with 100 women wearing bikinis and realize you only have 99 different bikinis...

There are a few good ones over at Rendo.  Greenpot's schoolbus works fine in DS when converted to Iray and there's a DS ready version of Vanishg Point's EMT Bus.  Kana's studff looks llike it's for 3DS, but there are Poser ready versions included with at least some of them. For freebies, the best I've seen is a modern-style commuter by Mausel at ShareCG... all his product names are in German, so under the name Linienbus.

Seriously, I do crowd scenes but I use about the same technique Riversoft uses - render them individually and put them in the scene as billboards.  And yes, I pretty much have all of Riversoft's Now Crowd Sets.  And a very full 3TB hard drive...  Haven't actually counted how many bikini's I've bought but the number is probably pretty embarrassing if you count all the generations.

...when you think about a scene you'd like to realize, without checking if you have the right products before that!

....I was able to find a freebie of a Volvo transit bus in .obj format though needed to create a new texture for the body shell it as it had all German adverts on it and the scne was in another country.  Can't afford models from  the pro sites and some, like TS, have restrictive licencing (usually "Editorial Usage" only).  Really would love a GM THD "Old Look", a GMC "Fishbowl", a Faegol Twin Coach, and either a Marmon-Herrington or Pullman trolleybus.

...I just want would like transit buses that look like something you would actually see in cities.  We have a number of cars and trucks now that look reasonable just no buses.

And what's really frustrating is that this is 80% of the way there: https://www.daz3d.com/globetrotter-motor-home  Unfortunately I bought it and the way the parts and materials are laid out, you can't just hide the inside and stick a few rows of seats in there.

Oh, and before I forget on the subject of buses, there are two free low rez ones incluided with Stonmason's Urban Sprawl 3.

  • kyoto kidkyoto kid Posts: 41,861

...yeah, that would make a great intercity highway bus.

Same with a few aircraft here like the Airbus 380 lookallike, which is set up as a private luxury jet instead of an airliner.  The "other site" at least has a decent 737 (with full interior) which is the most popular jetliner in the air today.

Still would like a viable Boeing 707, Boeing 727, Douglas DC-8, Vickers VC-10,.  I know Vanishing Point has a few of those airliners but there are inaccuracies which keep me from buyng them (particularly the VC-10 which I need for illustrations in my story).
