  • For those interested in Xenoman, be advised that, because of the digitigrade legs (animals which effectively stand on the balls of their toes and use the 'foot' as a third segmented piece of the leg), most ordinary full-bodied poses will have odd effects when applied upon legs. If you just apply normal poses, the positions of the figure's legs will most typically not look very natural.

However! I took a chance and experimented with using Josh's poses for their similar Dweller figure:

    https://www.daz3d.com/poses-for-the-dweller-hd

Obtain this product for the new character and most seem to work perfectly. :) Haven't had the time to try them all, but most function, which indicates the leg proportions are probably similar. Then just apply poses from other sets purely to the torso for a combined natural-looking pose of whatever you require.

  • Has the thread gone this long without some techie making the obvious joke? About (u)Nix, or his younger brother (li)Nux? Ach, it's a terrible joke, but someone has to do it....That was the first thing I thought of when I saw him, so I was kind of hoping for some binary themed content! And, fwiw, I intend to get (u)Nix on Friday when I get paid....Daz should really give (li)Nux away for free! (sorry couldn't help it - I'll stop now.)

Actually, all of the DAZ's male Genesis charaters are unix untess you buy the Pro Bundle to get the anatomical elements.  Other wise they've all got nix.  And as for linux, that's luci's brother in Peanuts.

Well, maybe no one did because it is terrible and pretty obscure.

Speaking as a techie and a Daz user who runs on Wine on 'Linux - techies tend to try to avoid making techie jokes on non-techie sites to minimise being looked at like we're lunatix speaking farbot from the planet mental with two lemons and an ostrich.

    Hello Everyone:

Here are my untouched Nix Renders. I went ahead and did Nix in the basic human colors (when available) and then the non-human colors for comparison purposes. You can see the large versions on my Deviant Art pages.

they look like twins other than the obvious couple.

Thanks for pointing that out. Yes, most of the Dweller poses should work on the Xenoman character. The reason regular poses will not work has to do with the orientation in the rigging for the legs. So for regular poses you'll have to adjust the legs by hand, the upper body should remain the same for regular poses. I hope that helps.

I noticed some people asking about the spine and if Nix is required for Xenoman to work. The answer is yes, Nix is required. Not only will you get a different shape, you also need the Nix spine for the character to work.

Hilarious! Why did I never think of that joke before!

Again, funny. It was a horrible joke, but I couldn't resist... but no more derailing the thread with bad jokes!

    Nix!

Really don't know how I feel about this guy yet.  Maybe he'd work as a more average, everyman type.  Maybe the skin will work for demonic, horror shots.  But it's like with Zelara, he doesn't really scream alien to me.

  • Bought the pro bundle right away. Easy decision! Hopefully I'll be able to play with him soon!

Does anyone know why Nix is required for 'Reth'?  I'm not buying any Nix stuff, but I would like Reth.

    1. Reth is based off Nix, so without him he will look slightly different (he uses 60% Nix)

    2. Reth comes with materials for the external spine that is included with Nix.

    Ciao

I bought Tyrone for Darius 8 withoiut buying Darius 8 & he looks fine & normal, although a bit beefier. Looking at Nix's build that will probably be the case for Reth too.

I grabbed him yesterday, but have been too busy to do any renders yet! Maybe after Christmas...

@sapat, Reth uses Nix 8 Head at 50% and Nix 8 Body at 60%.

Here are three images to help you decide, comparing Reth with Nix 8, without Nix 8 and substituting Michael 8 for Nix 8:

    Reth Default

    Reth Sans Nix8

     Reth M8 Mix

Using M8 instead of Nix8, I think you can come close. Maybe dial down Mike's head a bit, to 50% or so. (Assuming you have M8.) It looks like Nix is taller than the other bodies I tried dialing in, but if you have the Body Morphs, you should be able to add some height, if you want/need it.

I agree about Reth. He was the deal maker for me. Even though I try to support male content, I don't really do much art in the SciFi genre and don't need the aliens, but I wanted both hairs and Reth. The items in the bundles didn't get as good a discount as the Add-ons, and the price was high enough for the three, (four if you include Nix 8 to get authentic Reth,) to make it cost effective, (for me,) to get the bundle instead.

Anyway, I hope these image help.

I wonder if any of these other Nix add-on characters have spine morphs. For Zelara, only KamilyAnn had extra morphs for the spine.

I don't have any of the add-on characters, so I don't know if they have spine morphs or not. You can attach Zelara 8's spine to Nix and use KamilyAnn's spine morphs with it. It's not a perfect fit but the larger morphs appear to look nice, imo. :)

Here's Zelara's spine on Nix with one of KamilyAnn's spine morphs. Nix is also using one of KamilyAnn's skin sets thanks to G8 UV swap. :)

60s Star Trek alien - Different colored skin.  (As opposed to TNG/DS9 Alien - weird nose or forehead. ;))

Testting Nix a bit. He actually looks better under the default HDRI than the lights I used, which is unusual.

do anybody know, which facial hair is this?

    Hi

For those interested, i used Vladimir 8 Stubble on this image.
The beard has 2 materials. Just put the opacity on 0% on the main one, and voilà :)

  • So working with Nix for a short bit, messing with material settings and such, I wound up with this. Unfortunately, what makes it hardest to make him look real is that many of the male hair options don't. (Both top of the head and facial hair.) Would be really nice to have more realistic male hair options.

Perfect! Thank you. I've been going through all the facial hairs I have trying to find this. You've saved me pulling my own hair out! haha

My first play around with Nix, I'm not entirely fond of the lighting but it is what it is right now. I should have done something regarding his nipples, but it slipped my mind until it was already rendered. I might however go back and fix that, as well as the lighting, but we'll see :) I do like his shape, even though I have beefed him up a bit here.

Yes, they help a lot!  My fav is the one where you've mixed Nix with M8.  Can't believe I'm saying that because I never use M8. Don't think I ever have.  But in this case he looks the best. I actually like his traps.  I don't really care about the spines anyway since I've read in this thread that they are separate, and I don't have the female that goes with him anyway.  (Now I'm thinking about the 'harness' kids in Falling Skies")

Thanks so much for posting them.  Big help!!  Now I can put Reth in my cart.
