shopping for a smart tv that doesnt have ads on it.  was looking at a toshiba and a samsung, the reviews mentioned be prepared for the onslaught of ads.  i most definitely don't want ads.  mebbe be better off without a smarts tv. just a plain old tv

Plain old tv like one found in a thrift shop because they are not made anymore.  I got a Fire SmartTV and there are ads, but to be honest even with that old tv there will be ads.  It is hard to watch tv without ads.  Even Netflix has "ads" for shows they want you to watch.  Even the premium cable chanels like Showtime and HBO have ads but it is mainly ads to show what else is on their channels.  The ads on my fire smart tv are not invasive.

Daz even wants you to buy stuff.  I am pretty sure you get those newsletters which are practically advertisements.  This is forum is on a commercial site.

I partly understand why you want no ads, but in general I do not understand.  Ads are hard to get away from in modern culture.  I recommend you avoid tv all together if you want to stay away from ads.

What form, i.e. when and where do you expect ads to appear when using a "SmartTV"?  I have a four year old Panasonic SmartTV and it has access to Netflix and a couple other streaming sources.  When I turn on the TV I get a small static ad at the bottom of the screen for a few seconds until I switch to one of the streaming services to pick show to watch.  The initial  ad provided by the TV itself stays the same for a few weeks then changes.  I can live with that.  It's easy enough to ignore. yes

However, almost all of the low class streaming services and most of the higher class streaming services (Netflix, Hulu, etc.) even if made accessible natively by your SmartTV will probably give you advertisements during programs just like broadcast TV does, although they are usually mercifully shorter.  indecision

Getting rid of commercials without having to pay extra fees is becomming a very rare surprise.  If you want NetFlix without commercials then pay more for the service.  Same with Hulu.   And if you don't already have cable TV or satellite TV access through one of the big distributers, you're going to have to pay for access to the major networks (ABC, CBS, NBC) and since I don't subscribe to their streaming services I'm not even sure you can pay your way out of commercials from them. frown

But, since my Panasonic SmartTV now no longer provides access to YouTube natively (apparently YouTube changed its streaming format and my Panasonic hasn't updated its firmware in a couple years), I have switched to using an Amazon "FireTV Stick" that is essentially an external device that provides the same type of capability that the smarts in a SmartTV do.  I never use the smarts in my SmartTV anymore and get all my programming through the Internet via my "FireTV Stick".  Yes, it still has commercials, just like SmartTVs but I pay for the commercial free Netflix and the commercial free Amazon PrimeTV service.  And the big reason I love my new "FireTV Stick" is that it works with YouTube too (although I had to jump through a few hoops to get it to work). smiley  By stopping my satellite (DISH) TV service and switching to streaming service I cut my TV entertainment bill from $100/month to $25/month.  I was already paying for high speed Internet service through my phone company but now I get more out of it.

Also, if you're considering a standard modern dumb TV that has an HDMI port, then an Amazon FireTV Stick or similar product essentially turns the dumb TV into a SmartTV. enlightened

I am 17 coins short in a game to get something.  I am refusing to buy in app purchases for this game because I have a subscription bill to pay soon but I am about 17 cents short of my total budget to pay for that.

Anyway it was easier to earn it by playing a level than to complain about it here.  It was for purple bug tree in the game.  If I get this purple bug tree, I will get x amount of free purple bugs per hour.  What is so great about purple bugs?  If I can get enough purple bugs, I can finally get ahead and be able to play a new level instead of trying to beat the past levels again with it being harder to defeat.  Now to wait till the purple bug count adds up even though there is a cap on how many purple bugs I can get at a time.

I think I like purple lollipops better than purple bugs, though,

One of the creepiest kooks from the Sims-playing community has discovered Daz, if his Deviant Art page is an indication. A while back, he caused a pedo-panic. He's the foruming type, so... I guess we may see him soon. sad

Complaint:  Oh poop! frown  Winter has returned. indecision Temperature has fallen from 50F yesterday to 26 this morning and it's snowing strongly onto bare soft squishy ground.  Although, I'm still hoping that the weather will be kind enough by next Friday morning to permit me to drive to Buffalo for that concert with the Buffalo Philharmonic performing Holst's "The Planets" suite at Kleinhans Music Hall.  Very much wanting to do that.   But I can't commit my pennies and nickels to a ticket unless the weather looks promising.  Also hoping that there will still be tickets available.  But since the concert is at 10:30 on a Friday morning I don't think that's a prime sell-out period. indecision

What is Snapchat?  A game was encouraging me to follow via Snapchat in exchange for a key.

I get daily notifications of what I expect in the mail. I am expecting this (edited to remove address)  I searched the address and got the location of the old twin towers.  Wonder if we get the mail today so I can find out what it is.

...looks like wintry conditions for the next ten days here. Off and on snow then rain turning back to snow (and maybe freezing rain in between) with evening/night temps below freezing.  Need to head to the market in a bit to stock up as I'm just going to hibernate until it's over.  Had two tumbles that resulted in trips to the emergency room already, don't need another one.  Nice that I'm covered and all, but it still hurts and that that is no fun.

I was working on mine but then was called to eat dinner.  Then someone unplugged the wireless router while we ate so it messed things up for filing taxes.

on my 3rd toe infection this year.  discolored toes, infection or circulatory.  either case needs medical prodessional.  foot dr can help with infection, but if it circulatory you need  a vasculr dr to look for clots,  prontooo

a foot health tip, dry between your toes before putting socks on.

    I got a cold! frown

Complaint:  Weather forecast looks good for next Friday's mini-adventure to Buffalo for the symphony. HOWEVER, my car is going wonky.  The windshield wipers that had developed a mind of their own and were spontaneously wiping for a few cycles (even when turned off) then landing, have now decided to go spastic and will attempt to wipe left and right at the same time producing an ungodly chatter with first left winning for a couple of inches then right winning for a couple of inches.  If I had a passenger we could place bets on which direction would win first. frown  I quite seriously expect the wiper motors to burst into flames. sad  Soooo, Monday is an emergency trip to my local garage to see if there's anything they can do before 7:00 AM Friday morning. ($$$)indecision

Non-complaint:  I've been trying to think of some music I hadn't gushed about here previously and finally remembered the 3rd movement of Tchaikovsky's 2nd piano concerto.  I suspect that many would recognize at least the opening of his 1st piano concerto primarily because of the repeated wide chord triples at the beginning.  I'm sure it must have been in a cartoon somewhere.  (Nope... guess not.)  But regardless, you probably recognize the series of "Bong, bang, bing.  Bong, bang, bing. ..." double handed chords at the beginning.  Showman pianist Liberace (yes, the candelabra guy) played it the movies, on TV and on tour.  example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GVuxReEE1Ic

But back to the topic, Tchaikovsky's 2nd piano concerto is not so well known (and there-in lies a tale for another time) but it has fascinations of its own.  In particular the 3rd movement is the very definition of frantic and I've heard, difficult to play.  Despite its frenetic energy it has two captivating melodies (themes)  and is just so much fun to listen to if you can get to the end without forgetting to breathe. (the 2nd melody of the 3rd movement first shows up at 34:48)

Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky:  Piano Concerto #2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJAZW148gHc

1st movement: 0:25 Energetically yet sometimes delicately melodic.

    2nd movement 20:27  Lazy slow.

3rd movement 33:58  Eight minutes of instantly and consistently paniced frenzy!
