non-complaint  amazonian santa brought me orville dvd set  in pretty gift bag

  • Arghhh..., In my previous post I provided a link to the wrong YouTube clip of Liszt's "Hungarian Fantasy".  I've now corrected the link so that all the timecodes I provided will match up and you can see the video of the pianist and orchestra instead of a static picture of an album cover. frownblush

Non-complaint:  Being Saturday I brushed the light snow from the car and did my Saturday chores uptown.  During the trip, the radio played a piece I hadn't heard in a long time.  When I got home I checked my music CD index and realized it was yet another significant piece that I didn't have so I added it to my Amazon wishlist.  Meanwhile I found it on YouTube.  It's the "Hungarian Fantasy for Piano and Orchestra" by Franz Liszt..  It's not a "Concerto" or "Sonata" or "Symphony" or whatever, it is a "Fantasy".  And being a "Fantasy" it doesn't follow typical rules of form or style.  If it were architecture you could say it was not a Church or not a Bank or not an Auditorium or not a Palace or not a Bungalo, it's it's own thing, a fun project designed by the architect following his bliss.

This is a fun piece about 15 minutes long.  It has a clear principle theme you might recognize, but the theme doesn't really appear in its entirety until about three and a half minutes into the YouTube clip.  The theme comes and goes and gets traded between the piano, and various instruments.  Finally at 10:18 the whole orchestra grandly tackles the theme.  During the times the piano is not playing the theme it's providing intricate lightning speed arpeggios up and down the keyboard.  At 11:55 the piano takes back the theme and is very energetic with it.  There is a short finale that starts at 14:18.

This piece is an example of what I call "big piano".  Lots of banging the keyboard, very wide chords, and running up and down the keyboard with lots of scales and arpeggios.  Watching the pianist you can tell she like playing with it.

Edited for link correction: Arghhh... I'd provided a link to the wrong YouTube clip.  I've now corrected the link so the times I gave will match up.

He's checking his Liszt, he's checking it twice, now the link is the one that's right. LeatherGryphon's coming to town...

I am doing a render of a Josh Crockett G3M character as Santa.  I showed him to my Mum and she thought he looked gross.  The render is not finished but once it is I will try to post it here.

Just tell her it's Krampus.. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krampus

And  he knows who's naughty and nice, and was once observed and described like this...

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And filled all the stockings; then turned with a jerk,
And laying his finger aside of his nose,
     And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose;

He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight,
     "I'll be Bach"!

Once in a while I encounter people who vociferously denigrate my type of music.  At that moment I empathize with poor Basil Faulty trying to relax with a little of Brahms' 3rd symphony.

A dude made a line of joke candles like that, and... At least one professional blogger, with a degree of some kind from a real university, wrote a lengthy article about how that showed the Patriarchy in action and society's dismissal of women's plights. True story! I won't link to it, because political, but sometimes I wonder if I could make a career out of blogging about stuff that's bound to get at least a fringe audience all riled up. I'm pretty good at seeing connections I know aren't really there, but it would make sense (in a way) if they were. Like my professor in college said (paraphrased), it doesn't matter if you're not correct, when analysing something, as long as your arguements are technically sound.

Orville is serio-comedy. Stick with it,  it reminds me of ST:TOS with more humor. I like it.

I would call The Good Place a sitcom. I should have said Orville is dramedy, where the drama part can be very serious, and the comedy very silly. I like the balance. smiley

I found the good place on Netflix.  I am on season 2 but need to renew Netflix to finish watching it. They want money for me to continue to use their services.  I like that sitcom partly because there is no canned laughter.  I loathe canned laughter.

I got a free version of Cinema that I am trying to download, but the internet connection here sucks.  Especially since I am upstairs and the WiFi router is downstairs.  It is free with restrictions I think, but at least I can see if I like enough to investigate if I can get the "Full" version.  Wait is Cinema a subscription based like Adobe, or is it like ZBrush (aka buy once and get for life) or something in between?

edit:  o.0  apparently I need to make a lot more $$$$$ in order to afford it.

Agreed!  They attack social issues like TOS did, too.  And it's just damn entertaining!

I had a nightmare about cannibalizing monsters that eat people and it was very detailed, but I am afraid to type it up here.  It contains people running towards the monsters as if the air contained mind altering drugs or something.

I probably had a medicine mixture that was awful.  I hope not to experience that again,

Those wouldn't be cannibalistic, then.  A cannibal eats its own species.  Those would just be carnivorous monsters.
