Morning
1) Will 8.1 projects load into 8.5 without any tweeking?
2) Will 8.5 projects load into 8.1?
( I have projects that involve quicktime, so I occasionally render out of 8.1 32 bit)
3) Is 8.5 still 32 and 64 bit?

If I don't want the added content is there any other reason to buy 8.5 Pro?
It appears so In the Info page BUT i'm not sure it has been updated.
Thanks

8.1 scenes will load in 8.5 just fine. 8.5 scenes probably won't load in 8.1, it depends on what is in the scene. There are 32 and 64 bit versions available for Carrara 8.5 Pro.

Besides the additional content there are several new features for Carrara 8.5. You can find the list of new features on the Carrara 8.5 or 8.5 Pro product page.

    Hi,

    From my initial testing...

    1) Objects - yes. Lots of Lighting - no.
    - I've loaded my Episode 8 of Sci Fi Funk (1775 objects, 249 lights, 433 shaders), and it looks ok, but some lights are not the same. All my lights are heavily grouped. I'm sure it's ok for the majority of scenes, but (first glance) you can't trust it to be the same if you are rendering a scene from 8.1 to 8.5

    2) I doubt it, this is never a good idea. Even if it worked for some files the new features would / could cause a crash. I'd rather label my folders with the Carrara version no and keep multiple copies on the machine.

    3) Yes.

    Other reasons. Render Speed.

    EDIT

The jury is still out on speed. The claim is that it increases render speed by up to 200%. On my 2nd test I thought I had achieved about 85% increase over a network - but after further consideration, I think I was wrong - it was just the network. I'll continue to test, and come back when I'm more certain. If any developer is reading this and can explain where it is faster I'd be grateful.

    END OF EDIT

However the bug with volumetric lighting over a network is still there, so big downer for my blade runner style scenes.
