White Navigation in the Viewport... Problem!

edited September 2018 in Daz Studio Discussion

Hi everyone. I have a very strange problem where the navigation and figures are blew out white. I found it happened every now and again but now it seems to be that way every time I open Daz Studio. It is a fresh install of 4.10 with only the default downloads installed from the install manager. Anybody know how to fix it? or seen this before? Thanks!

  • It might be corruption in the Style definition, though that usually has more far reaching consequences. Still, it may be worth closing DS (and making sure it really is closed via Task Manager or the Mac equivalent), then uninstalling and reinstalling.

  • Thanks for your reply Richard! I've only tried Daz Studio for the first time a few days ago. Unfortunately this problem has been there since then. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the program (Including all hidden folders and reg keys etc) multiple times. The problem keeps appearing. Right now it is everytime I load Daz Studio. I can use the navigation if I guess the correct white box to wiggle around! The above image is on "texture shaded" of genesis 3 female.. The figure shouldn't be all white either.

  • The mising controls are handled by OpenGL - you may be running into a driver or feature support issue. What GPU/graphics card do you haev, and what driver are you running - you can get the details from Help>Troubleshooting>About Your Video Card.

  • Hi I think we're on to something now. I looked at the troubleshooting log and it said "OpenGL error while drawing to the viewport: out of memory"...

My graphics card is 'GeForce GTX 1050 Ti' ... Driver version 399.24 ...

    About your video card....

    Current OpenGL Version:

    4.5.0 - Build 24.20.100.6222

    OpenGL Provider:

    Intel

  • Well I took a big breath and disabled "Intel(R) HD Graphics 630" in my device manager. Seems to be working again so far! Thanks for your help!

My "About your video card" now reads....

  • I'm not certain of the details, but if this is a laptop with two GPUs both capabale of driving the display then you should be able to set which each application uses in the control panel or settings panel - the advantage of using the intel where you don't need the features of the nVidia is that it may draw less power.

  • Yes it is a laptop with two GPUs (Apparantly). I have enabled the Intel Graphics card again and got the same problem in Daz Studio. I opened the nvideo control panel and set daz studio to use the nvidea card. All working great now!  Thanks for your help!

I am having the same problem. Searching for a solution has led me to this thread. I really don't think it's a corrupt Layout file. I've even tried selecting a Layout and switching from my custom one to City Limits and back. It still makes the draw style in the scene area corrupt. And anything loaded in the scene is just white. At first when a scene loaded white, I could shut down DAZ Studio and launch it again, and things would work fine then. So I think if it were a corrupt Layout, it probably wouldn't work the second time. But lately, after relaunching DAZ Studio and even rebooting the computer, the problem persists. It said it was unable to apply a texture and it was an OpenGL out of memory error. I too have a laptop with an integrated Intel 630. And I have an Nvidia 1050 but without the Ti. Using the Nvidia control panel to switch the default to the Nvidia card makes it work, but it used to work with the Intel one. I don't believe there has been any significant change to the system. The corrupted menu selection boxes appear even if no item is loaded. And it doesn't matter if I load an old or new character. It seems as if DAZ Studio has just randomly decided the Intel hardware isn't good enough. I wonder if I've somehow set this thing to use more memory or if some product I used has a preset that changed things. In the render settings, clicking on "Default" does not help. There doesn't seem to be anything in the preferences about memory for textures. The following is the latter portion of the logfile:

  • It may be down to a silent driver update for the Intel GPU.

  • I had a similar problem a while ago and this fixed it.

Under RENDER tab, go to render settings then select "Advanced" then UN-check the box next to "Motion Blur."

Not sure if this will help but it did fix mine.

I found that Motion Blur setting in the 3Delight settings. On my computer, it was already unchecked. The Intel display driver appears to be a combination driver for the CPU and integrated graphics. It was dated August 2018. The most recent Windows Update was from 16 January 2019. There was no option to restore to an earlier state. I created a restore point and went over to intel.com to download their newest driver. It refused to install, stating the manufacturer makes custom drivers for this laptop and the manufacturer version of the driver should be installed. So I went over to asus.com and downloaded their driver. It warned it would be installing an older driver than the one that was already there. It took the driver date from August 2018 to April 2018. DAZ Studio still didn't work. So I did the system restore and returned the system to its state before I started trying to install drivers.

At least it still works with the Nvidia hardware. Maybe switching between the two convinced the app it somehow would always have the larger amount of texture memory available.

I launched the DAZ Install Manager and it notified me there was an update to the Fluidos product. I did the update, which included an update to the Microsoft C++ runtime (2017). After that, DAZ Studio now works again with the Intel graphics accelerator.

I had the same issue, it was after I tested the DrawStyle "NVIDIA Iray", clicked the little icone beside and clicked on the scne :everything then went white when I choose back the DraStyle "Filament".

I found the solution in this thread : Horrendous overexposure problem - Daz 3D Forums

The problem comes from some render settings : in Editor tab select "Tone Mapping" and check "Exposure value" = if the value is white it has been changed, try to reset it (for me the default value is 13).

It corrected the issue for me.

Hello, first of all thank you, you gave me the right hint to solve the problem. But i think you just thought it was "Tone Mapping" related. It was not quite like that, since i had the "Exposure Value" on default (13) already and the issue still occured. But you mentioned the "Draw Style" in "Draw Settings". This was set on "Filament". So i switched it from "Filament" to "Texture Shaded" and the figure immediately loaded up correctly in real time.

There are more options in this tab like "Cartoon Shaded", "Wire Texture Shaded", "Solid Bounding Box" (which shapes the figure in boxes) and so on. All of these options change the figure in the viewport very differently, and the option "Filament" just increase the exposure of the figure. So my conclusion is that must be the root of this problem.
