After a long render is it good to restart your Computer?

What does the counsel of knowledge say to this. After 6-12 hours of 90+ capacity on my cpu does it help to shut down the computer and let it clear it's head when it finishes or am I just wasting valuable time? Does this kind of use shorten your computers lifespan? I cannot find any studies on continued renderings effect on a computer but it seems that running anything at 90-100 percent for so many hours must not help. I am blown away at how long some renders take and I keep wondering if my computer is gonna have a heart attack, it does smoke two packs a day. :P
