Get rid of Iray rim light/halo effect in hair?

Anytime I use a rim light (or any light behind someone with Iray) I get some of the hair bright white almost as if its not shining through the hairs. Here is a sample image I did. Any ideas?

thanks!

    hi

Do you change the main surface type?
By default most of Iray surfaces hair are Metalic, try Weighted

also do changes  with "diffuse strengh"

Based on that render, I think you're looking at translucency and/or transmission. Hair is supposed to transmit some of the light that hits it. It looks to me like it is transmitting ALL of the light instead. Check your strength values and color settings for transmission and translucency and see if you can tone that down some.

Also, based on the dynamic range in that image, how are you setting up your Render Settings -> Tone Mapping values? I would have expected the highligts to be clamped down a little. Are you adjusting the gama values or anything?

    Just using defaults for everything.

Are you using a spotlight with geometry for your rim light? If that's the case try lowering the size of it or just changing the geometry to a point.
