I am not about to go and find all the threads that prove you wrong on both points.

Edited to add that DAZ 3D has never censored honest opinions, as long as they are couched politely and do address the topic in hand rather than being blanket unreasoned criticism or obviously designed to provoke, shock or anger.

I politely disagree with your final statement. It has been my observation over the years that anything that reflects negatively on DAZ meets the definition of "unreasoned criticism".

    8-/

A large group of us were more than frank and very vocal on our feelings about Genesis 2.
Those threads are still there, unlocked and uncensored.

I have said negative things about Genesis 2 Female since it came out and none of the threads or posts are gone. They are all there.

And let's not forget the endless threads of mixed feelings on genesis 1 when it first arrived. They're still there.

Hello I need some help please.

I have been playing with Dawn and kind of broke her a little.

I loaded Dawn, added some D-Formers, (spawned the morph and deleted the D-Formers), saved as Scene file, New Dawn 1.
Loaded that scene file later, added some more D-Formers, (spawned the morph and deleted the D-Formers), saved as Scene file, New Dawn 2

    follow me?

So I ended up on about my 20th scene file, each time the morphs grew in numbers, all the way up to about 123.

I tried to save it as a morph or figure or something? I don't know what I did, but now when I load Dawn; I mean Dawn now; not a scene file, but when I load the default Dawn file. all of the 123 morphs I created are already in Dawn.

I don't want them in her, how do I remove them?

Not an expert, but maybe you used "save modified assets" at some point when saving your morphs? Depending on what you are doing that can save the figure itself with morphs applied instead of the morphs themselves.

I would try “zero figure shape” and then "save modified assets", or installing Dawn again.

If you used D-Formers you should have used the "spawn morph" in the D-Formers tab, then go to File-Save As-Support Asset-Morphs Assets and select your spawned D-Former morphs.

Thanks for writing all of that I need all the help I can get.
    I'm not sure what happened? I looked in the data folder and found a folder I must have made on accident called "test" inside that folder I found all of my D-Former spawned morphs. I deleted it and fixed Dawn. Used a cheap trick to get the master morph of the character into Dawn, at the moment saved as a scene file;
before I deleted the "test" folder I sent my Dawn crammed full of morphs to Hexagon with the bridge. Then inside DS I deleted my morphed Dawn. With a clear scene file I then deleted the "test" folder inside the data folder. I loaded up a new Dawn, then sent my morphed figure back into DS with the bridge and was able to make a master morph of the character.

Here is a what my Dawn looks like so far, all the morphs are my creation and the texture is mine also.
    Hope you all like it.
If interested please click to see full size, and ps I really wish the forums would let is upload large png or tif files

PNG is an allowed format and 2000 pixels is the upper limit size wise, as long as it is below the kb limit, which is generous.

As a Genesis 1 user, I can't see myself getting any real use out of Dawn but I hope she does well since competition tends to lead to innovation. A good point was made about her facial structure seeming a bit more mixed or latina than the typical caucasian supermodel. Also, a lot of her promos are unflattering. The lighting doesn't seem right and the makeup seems too strong. I've seen a few vendors take the base shape and skin yet make better images. I almost want to download her out of curiosity of seeing how she looks in different lighting.

Don't use the makeup option, and default skin is fine...

Just a quick observation I just noted:

At one month in, and NOT counting freebies, there are now well over 200 items for Dawn on sale over the major websites and probably closer to 250, once you add in Xurge, Poserworld, etc. That's easily the best initial show of support I've ever seen for a non-DAZ, non-SM figure, and light years better than the last three pairs of Poser-included figures received. As a relative yardstick, the combined G2F figures - Base, V6, Gia & the Girl 6... are showing 55 items here at DAZ and, to the best of my knowledge, there haven't been any off-site other than freebies. Granted, G2F can use a good selection of Genesis 1 items and V5 skins, which is solid a leg up, but it's still proving to be a rather impressive launch for Dawn.

Not everything is made for DS or Poser for DAWN but with some work you can make things work well in either program. Here is a freebie that I loved enough to want it fully for DS. So I took Jan's (DreamerZ) Fashion Pumps for Dawn (which are props for Poser) and made them conformers and did all the maps and proper set up for DAZ Studio . So if you need pumps for Dawn then these are fantastic. :-)

Hopefully posting a freebie item won't get the link removed. http://www.renderosity.com/mod/freestuff/details.php?item_id=72227

Rendo and RDNA are leading the way but I am disappointed in the lack of support at HiveWire itself. As you say it is a month out ... and still no complete morph set from them or utilities geared toward her.

That depends on what you mean by "work." Straight out of the box, without adjusting textures? Probably not a very large percentage, given that most vendors don't make any promises about DS for stuff for V4 either. With a little tweaking, most of it. Then again, most V4 stuff, especially that from outside of DAZ, usually needs a bit of tweaking to work well with Genesis, so it's not like this isn't par for the course.

On the other hand, DS users don't NEED Dawn, certainly not in the way that Poser users have been badly needing a more modern figure standard. For most purposes, Genesis and the G2F girls are better figure bases if you primarily use DS, And on the OTHER other hand, Dawn's better compatibility with Poser (and, by default, that upgrade path to suites like Vue, C4D, Lightwave, etc.,) makes her a much more attractive option for that user base, which is still a considerably larger one than what exists for DS. The PAs are simply following the money, and if DS users don't buy the product that's coming out now, there'll be less incentive to focus on Dawn-DS in the future.

What would interest me are the sales numbers:

How many people purchased those 200 items for Dawn?
How many people have purchased those 55 items for Gn2f?

I noticed that the number of Gn2F items jumped up to 86 since my first post. I imagine someone finally noticed that there were a couple of erroneously labeled items that weren't showing in the official tally.

As for actual sales numbers, I doubt that we're ever likely to get real sales figures from DAZ... and even if we did, I think it's fair to say that between cracked and bootleg software and legitimate freebie items, what's been "sold" doesn't accurately reflect what's actually in use out there. However, in the end, the Poser user base is by far the bigger pie, so Dawn's ultimate fate rests on that crowd, not the DS Users.

What will be telling, ultimately, is if new Dawn items continue to roll off the assembly line... and given that there are a number of vendors who've already released second and even third waves of product, that would seem to imply that she's getting serious interest. Even more interesting are the vendors who're now making combined Dawn/V4 sets.

To make Gen 4 characters work for Gen 6 you do not only need to transfer the morphs but you also need to convert material presets. There is a limit how much additional work I am willing to do when I actually paid to use a character.

The problem there, of course, being that that's really only a workable option if you're satisfied with the relatively small pool of items that are already set up for Genesis and Genesis 2. Personally, I'd rather buy something that's close to what I want, whether it's V4, V3, TY or MIkki, and then tweak it over to the figure I'm using rather than attempt to build the same item from scratch or wait for someone to actually build one in a native Genesis format. Everyone's mileage will vary.

It may or may not make much difference, but also good to remember we're still near the beginning of two solid months of sales at DAZ that the PAs and DAZ themselves (for the PC anniversary sale) tend to stock up on products for well in advance.

Thanks Cathy. You can follow my progress over at the hive's forums. Can't post a link or it will get snuffed. :-)

Konan is the maker of Blacksmith software and recently released Reality Paint. He's jumping in deep waters making a texture conversion app. One will will be a stand alone and the other will be integrated into Reality Paint. I think the first model he's concentrating on is Dawn with conversions coming from V4 if I'm not mistaken. He could have changed his path but that's what I got from the thread he was talking about it in.
