Omf, yea, I'm kinda OCD and this was my entire day so thought it'll be a bit messy I'll try to do that tomorrow cuz I ain't finding the answer anywhere I've looked and I've looked just about everywhere! Appreciate it!
No problem. Take your time, and hopefully, we'll be able to figure what the problem with that camera-setting is.
So here's ... sumthin. Not sure she's in the exact position but more or less. Dropped a second person in just to have sumthin to check DoF with. I'm mostly hoping, like I said in my op, that it's some little something in the project I have set wrong and that you'll open this and have a quick "Ah ha!" Again, don't think it's exact but it is the same save with most everything deleted. *crossing fingers*
There seems to be no attachment?
Yea, grrr, looked like it had but tried again and after an hour it still wasn't attached. This may work:

Mind if I snoop your project too? ;) It will be a good learning experience for me as well.
Snoop away.
*edit* ... Please snoop away!!!
Cool, looking at it now ;)
I'm not an expert at all but an avid pusher of buttons, and sliders, I like to see what each bit does lol. (Tinkerer)
lol, hope you have better luck than I did cuz man I've clicked and slid anything and everything I could find ... but there's a whole frikkin lot to find in Daz.
Hi, one thing I noticed when tinkering is that once I turned your scene to photoreal and just used the script and one of my custom render settings I got DOF, I'm going to play a bit more, I will pm you a link to what I get although I won't have any specific answers that will count, someone with more experience will probably know straight away. I basically merged your scene into one of my scenes and just removed my stuff etc., but the DOF was good.
I'm going to upload and send you 2 scene renders and a scene, one is just the merge and one is the merge with one of my projects. I could not get anything out of interactive, from what I have read interactive is most like true physical light etc, tech stuff, I'm lost and know nothing ;)
But, once I switched your scene to photoreal the DOF kicked in. Maybe it will be useful for you to know.
Hm, I'm sure I've had it in Photoreal in render and draw at various points, but as I've said, the DoF has worked and then not worked and didn't note that as what did the trick. I have not read or seen anywhere in my weeks long binge of researching and troubleshooting of any correlation between DoF and Photoreal … but with all my issues and Daz weirdness anything's possible at this stage.
Pretty sure I have the script if it’s the one that you add a null object.
So ... DoF! Only thing I changed was to Photoreal, which I'll add, I predicted it being something simple that I had or hadn’t toggled. Though it begs the question: Why? I’ve consumed books worth of information on Daz and DoF and not a single mention of Photoreal, only Iray. And though you didn’t go into detail about your experience my sense from your post is that it just ended up working. It seems to me that there has to be some factor in this scene that is out of whack that it would require Photoreal.
I know I should just be giddy with a solution, and CGHipster make no mistake I am exceptionally giddy, thank you thank you thank you … but I would still love to know why, it did eat up a good fourth or so hours of my last week I’m pretty sure it’s a good amount more than that but don’t want to admit or accept that fact) and feel as though I deserve an explanation. Not from you of course, just from the world of Daz.
I downloaded the test.zip and apart from the fact that I don't have some of the content used when I check stuff out using Iray in the viewport I get both figures blurred with DoF. I tried switching from Interactive to Photoreakl and back and the blurring remains the same.
Okay... Sorry for the late reply, but I fell asleep... it's now 4am where I am, let's hope my braincells work.
I've loaded the scene and I definitely don't get DOF effect with your settings. I'm currently working in DS 4.8, but I will repeat it with 4.11 BETA.
I've marked where the focal point is for your scene and where the figure is. Can you confirm that it looks like this in your setup?
EDIT: Okay... while going through the test I caught up with the remainder of the thread, and yes, the interactive mode was, indeed, the culprit. I've changed the settings so you get the girl sharp and the background blurry.
Interactive mode uses a different type of calculation, and it can't do a couple of things as far as I know. I think certain lights also don't show up.
EDITII: Okay, now it gets funny...I've loaded the scene into 4.11 BETA and while I get the blurry effect in preview mode using Interactive, the actual render is crisp and sharp.
@Muttley, I've just dropped the question in the BETA thread about interactive mode and DOF. Thing is, I never use interactive mode in final renders, as it has a different type of calculation and not everything shows up later as it should. But that generally different behaviour is not a DAZ Studio issue, or fault of the DAZ people, but an Iray issue (different algorythm used). It doesn't explain the image/screenshot below, though.
oops I dbl posted don't know how to delete it.
Hi, had to sign off for the night. For me it was the same where in interactive there was no DOF as soon as I changed it to Photoreal I got blurry images. One thing I noticed in interactive was that the back spotlight intensity was lighting up through the male figure like in the image above, I'm pretty sure I read in the forums a post where someone talks about how interactive has more control over the physical aspect of light but that its much more precise but also much more complex to implement.
I have never used interactive, my brain does not want complex and I'm not sure that I'm smart enough to wrap around the whole physics part ;)
Trust me brother, this software has eaten so much of my time too lol, its one of those things where you start with a nibble and then go in for a bite and walk out with your belt loop open, pants pulled back and a boot up the backside ;p
