Is it possible to mix and match wearables, even between male/female?

I was looking to create a character for a game that works similarly to Vi from LoL, not quite so exagerated in the hands, but definately larger than normal gloves

So it would require a body suit from one set of armor, then a much larger proportioned set of gloves/gauntlets from another set of armor.

Is it posible to mix and match like that in an automatic fassion? Or would I have to try and frankentstein the pieces I want together and re-rig?

Sure. Genesis 8 comes with a buch of autofit clones. You can fit G8M, G3M, G2M and Genesis stuff to G8F and vice versa.

Autofit is certainly not perfect. Extreme poses can warp the clothing and heeled shoes are troublesome.

Genesis 8 is the newest figure, but if 90% of your wearables are for an older figure like Genesis, I'd be tempted to just use the older figure to reduce autofit issues. Otherwise, I'd be tempted to use Genesis 8.

Yep!  It's called "Kit-Bashing."  If you are using Genesis 8, I highly recommend the following products to help fit items from different sets together:

These assist in fitting older clothes to G8, including extra bones for posing draping cloth.

Fit Control adds additional fitting morphs to clothing, which will help when stacking items on top of each other.  This set is especially good for removing the "Saran Wrap" look of clothing around the breasts to deliver a much more natural look.  Includes morphs for fitting boots over pants, hose, etc.

This adds morphs in a different way than Fit Control for additional morphs to fill any gaps.  Contains the best boot fit morphs IMHO.  The combination of these products will give you the most versatility for kit-bashing.  If you can get them in a bundle, they will be cheaper.

    Fitting Tip:

Some items will require considerable tweaking to remove all poke-through.  You will have to increase a morph on the upper layer while decreasing the morph on the underlayer.  Sometimes it's necessary to hide a body part or a clothing part.  For example, if you can't stop pants from poking through the ankles of boots, hide the lower part of the pants using Geometry Editor.  You will find an example similar to this in my signature (4) Fitting Old Shoes to Genesis 8.
