I have been hanging around a while now, several thousand posts since 2004

AND only just now thought to ask DAZ for a little something, Lagniappe maybe?  For my 64th bday tomorrow!   I'm a bit buzzed right now, freely admit that.   Have been told to Step Away From The Keyboard Sir! when in this state.   So.  Upon asking, even with the faint hope of friendly response, will now step dutifully away from said keyboard.  And sip a bit more of that fine 70 proof Blackberry Brandy (Hiram Walker!).  Ah that stuff is so tasty!

G'nite all, and Happy Birthday to ME!   :o)

Happy Birthday! I also thought brandy had to be aged 100 years at least before it was sold.

I had never heard that expression (Lagniappe) before and on looking it up I know what you mean.  You learn something every day and today I learned two things - no, make that three, I can still count to three, I learned a new word, and ...  I've gone and forgotten the other one! Hold stil a few years and I'll catch you up! cheeky

Best wishes for a fun, ungraceful, joyful birthday!

Lol, same! I thought it was a Daz3d character, similar to Bijou (which folks theorized Daz gifted for birthdays -- back when she cost hundreds).

Growing up on Houston's East Side, there were lots of Cajun folk in the area.   You hear lots of things and see firsthand what they are about, and never give it a second thought.  "A Little Something Special" just for ones self, thats an amazing wonderful thing.  I am 64 today, and some of you wish you could be there again, others look at that figure with a little sense of dread at its fast approach.  But don't, it's just another little milestone!

For me to get here, that feels like a bit of lagniappe from our Creator.   :o)  And that thought brings me a smile, a bit of genuine warmth.

    Thank you Lord!

Thanks again, y'all!   Waves at Carrie, DaWaterRat, Kyoto Kid!    I cerebreated last night.  HIC!   Not so much for a hangover, but enough for a nice warm buzz and slept deep and well, woke well rested at noon-ish!  LOL!

    ...cool.  glad it was enjoyable.

Lived in New Orleans for a while back in the mid-late 70s. Had a couple Cajun friends.  Learned a good portion of my cooking skills there.  Lived in the uptown area just off St Charles between Loyola/Tulane and Downtown. Rode the old streetcar daily to work as well as to "fun" in the Vieux Carre (was a regular at Pat O'Briens on St. Peter St. as well as Cafe Du Monde). Haven't been back there since but it is on my "Great 'Round the Country Rail Adventure" itinerary I hope to take soon.

Coolness all!   @ Kyoto Kid - don't hope, DO it while your body will still let you!   I really want to get down to Palo Duro Canyon and see the sights, take lots of pictures.   Spend a year getting the photos worked up.  Make it an event.  And I'd better be doing it SOON or it won't be done nowhere but in "the caverns of my mind".  Yeah it's getting that way now.  Don't let it slip on by!   Doing it will be a FINE thing to remember for you!

So did you find out the answer to that famous question: will we still love you when you’re 64?

    Cheers and happy birthday!

...it's not so much the body as the finances, The whole idea is still hinging on my retro disability benefits case that my attorney is working on (back to 2013).  Trouble is there is such a big backlog to make it through. The trip won't be inexpensive as I'll be travelling in sleeper accommodations for the long overnight parts. Planned stopovers include Milwaukee, (old hometown with a side trip to Madison), Chicago, Boston, NYC, DC, New Orleans, Los Angeles, and San Francisco before returning to Portland.  Would love to include San Antonio but the train arrives there in the wee morning hours (02:30) when I'd normally be sound asleep.

No swing down into Florida as I'd have to go all the way back north to DC to get to New Orleans (or sit on a bus [ugh] through the South).

Oh, I bought mysel a nice little BDay present.   Another 960G SSD.  Love these little things, no moving parts, no heat generated, no noise, very space saving and they even WORK!    It should be here later today.  At my local Walmart.

Ditto on the bus.  They are all Continental now, DOT regs force drivers to get n hours sleep for every x hours driving.  Not that many drivers per bus.  Means long waits (like a full day even) in the station.  The ride doesn't seem that bad then.   Then there is the crowdedness.  Every Seat Occupied.  One lady bought a ticket each, for her and her dog.  A woman with 4 kids bought TWO tickets and was bitching at the driver about the 'inequality' of that.  The driver, a woman, with a stone cold expression said "She paid for the dogs seat.  I can let you off at the next stop if you like.  With all your kids.  Then there are folks like me.  I am a bit bigger than the width of the seat.  DOesn't matter which way I lean, I end up shouldering someone else.  Sigh.

Whenever you do take your rail trip, have a grand one!   :o)
