They're OK but the fur not great. Hopefully the Cat 8 will have better fur & if that's the cast you likely won't see as good a fur made fo MilCats.

...I've had the mesh distort on what would be "normal" cat poses that are not even as extreme as the ones I posted at the beginning of this thread.

Wasn't all that thrilled by look of the Hivewire offering. Something about it just doesn't look "right" to me.

Same here but why isn't there a kitten morph for the MilCat? My quick attempt here but I guess I made the eyes too big, it looks more like a toony Cheshire Cat LOL.

IIRC there was a kitten morph made for the MilCat and posted on ShareCg. It was several years ago.

There are free LAMH preesets for the MilCat on AM's website. As well as for a number of the other older models. It goes a long way in making the cat look as good as possible.

Oso Fur has a preset for MilCat (and MilDog and now Dog 8)

Oh, I love your attempt at a kitten. You should share it on shareCG or here.

I am pretty sure the one on sharecg is a preset, rather than a morph. The preset did a fair bit of scaling, plus used the morphs built into Mil Cat in order to create a kitten.

All this talk and I decided to see how the mil cat was still holding up since I hadn't used it in awhile and being the HW cat is on sale at rendo. After my test, I'll be holding off on getting the HW cat for now since the mil cat works fine for any projject I'll be needing it for.

...reminds me a bit of the Maine Coon we had when I grew up.

Looks pretty damn good to me (especially the face), @FSMCDesigns!

For me, it's largely about the fur when it comes to animals. To be honest, the new dog's lack of it was a bummer (and made me want to wait even less for a new cat). So I broke down and picked up the other cat yesterday, as I need one soon.

Saiyaness was kind of enough to make some LAMH presets available that are incredible (thank you!). Although working with LAMH in Iray is painful, I do like the results:

The HW3d kitten lacks the proportions you would typically see in a true kitten, so it kinda looks more like a scaled down adult HW3D housecat. The paws and head need to be larger, the tail shorter, maybe pudgier limbs.

As long as the Cat8 fixes the weird hip mesh distortions the MilCat suffers from when it sits or contorts its hind quarters in any way, i'll be happy. I always have to angle my camera in such a manner as to hide its nether regions in extreme poses. Other than that issue, still looks good in both 3delight and iray. I used the kitten morph from sharecg (with a few tweaks) in the january new user challenge.

If its not too much trouble for the creators who might be working on Cat8, can we please get a MilCat UV to recycle old textures? I'm willing to pay the extra costs for the effort put into it. I'd really appreciate it.

If you want a kitten Daio made one for the MilCat.  Scroll down on this thread to find it...

I always thought the shape of the millennium cat was pretty close to the real thing. It still looks good and I'm assuming with some subdiv and a nice coat of fur it probably wouldn't look bad at all. It's just those old, bad joints....lol. There were never any kittens for it that I remember, at least not official Daz morphs. I've voiced some issues I have with the HW Cat, even though if stylized is what you're after, it's perfect for that. As for realistic, it takes some work, but can be done.

I probably won't be able to do it until Saturday, hope that's OK. Also, I'm not sure how to share it-- as a scene subset, character subset, shape preset, with fur or not? I think you have to already own all the milcat stuff for it to work. I still don't understand DS's various saving abilities and usually just save everything as a scene because if I save as anything else, I can't find it because I don't want to save to the C drive where it likes to put it... After, what is it, more than two years now, I still don't know so much about DS...

Thanks. A scene subset that includes the cat I think would be least error prone but a shape would work too? If the fur the LAMH freebie? It is is than a scene subset with just the milCat works easiest. I can add the LAMH freebie fur from the LAMH site if it's too big to include in a secene subset (it might be!).

    Thanks.

Thanks Alicia, it's LAMH. The long hair preset is over at AM's site. Since LAMH also uses the texture for the color, the texture is a freebie from here http://www.lynescreations.com/tabby.htm

The fibermesh in the image is right at 320,000. I found after I can go as high as 600,000 before the scene freezes, LOL

I found that I was still getting what looked like a translucent halo around the basic cat until I adjusted the default settings so that instead of the hair being at 80/base and 50/tip it was 120/base and 66/tip. Also upped the density to 550,000.

I'd no issues at all with the original plugin back in DS4.0. Just increase the density and everything was fine.
