..so we now have Dog 8, (unsfortunately for Iray so LAMH and Garibaldi won't work for fur without making ht heavy in polys).
So when can we expect a Cat 8? And will it actually bend like a real cat?

I'm hoping for a new cat too. And yes, it needs at least half again as many segments for the spine/back as the G8 human models. I have the hivewire cat, but I can always use more (same principle as with horses for me.)
I should try dforcing millenium cat....
I’m not really into lamh so I’m okay it not being there. It’s always looked a bit funny to me.
...just make sure it doesn't explode when you do. Had that happen once a while back before dForce. Had calico all over the viewport.
...as I recall, Alessandro said something a while back about making a cat. That would allow for the use of LAMH and most likely the Catalyzer (hmm, appropriately named in this case).
He did, it was September 2016, so a while back, and one of the DAZ guys confirmed it. He also said he was working on a dog. We can only guess that he either gave up, or sold what he had done to DAZ.
Right now I DEMAND a cat and a new horse! LOL
Hmmm, I don't think they look toony as much as they look thin compared to a lot of people's fat pet dogs.
I would love to see a Cat 8! But then again, I love every animal, so I might be biased, hehe. I know there's the HW Cat, but IMHO, the more the merrier.
Who knows, maybe Cat 8 will come out later this month in cheeky reference to the complimentary DO characters. XP
I hope a cat come soon too! That was the first thing that popped into my head when I saw Dog 8...
I'm wavering on getting the dog, but a cat would be an instabuy.
..would love a "smushface" for Dog 8.
If Facebook has taught me anything, it's that you can never have too many cats :p
I've got Hivewire's House Cat, but I'd still like to see a Cat 8.
Cat bones are a quantum object; there when needed (read: observed), otherwise not. :)
need a dforce cat indeed
Based on personal observation, cats are actually liquids, so we'd need a really good fluid simulation package to make them work right.
...
.
There's an actual real-life scientific study about whether cats are a liquid or a solid. (The answer appears to be "both", but not for the obvious reasons.)
OK that's hilarious. You've gotta click on the scientific report itself - the cat pictures in it are priceless. You don't need to understand rheology to get a kick out of this.
I would love to read it but refuse to click to allow 3rd party stuff etc.

..same here as so often I get a popup complaining that I have an AdBlocker running (which happened) and it won't let me read the article unless I disable the blocker. or buy a yearly subscription.
Ah, OK. I've had an indirect subscription to the Post for a while, so didn't realize that was an issue.
Science Magazine has a summary; I don't subscribe to that and didn't see any popups, so it may be OK.
PDF - link to the Rheology Bulletin itself. Again: PDF, Adobe Acrobat, Sumatra, or similar software may be required.
You've most likely been "allowing" this normality all along, it's just that the EU has now decided you must be presented with the option of effectively not using the internet anymore. In fact, I don't recall DAZ bothering me with any GDPR twaddle; our favourite Utah saints seeming refreshingly uninterested in European "requirements" (VAT? yeah, whatev).
The cat phase study (written in full scientist) is published in Rheology Bulletin, vol. 83, no. 2, July 2014, pp. 16-17 and 30.

Ah, pipped by vwrangler.
I have thousands of pics of cats ( Nikon Pro Cameras) and real cats don't bend they contort like crazy.
Ditto. I use AdBlocker because I don't trust the kind of ads it blocks not to have malware tucked away inside them. Besides, they're annoying.
Edit: <snrk> Now that I've read the original article, I think I did myself a mischief laughing. The photos are hilarious. The photo captions even more so. I was about to say this deserves to be on the short list for an IgNobel award, then I discovered it actually won the Physics prize for last year.
I'm always surprised at the really obviously scammy pop-up ads I get from major news sites on the rare occasions I follow a link in the Apple iPhone 11.x iOS Facebook app. No scrupples from those news organizations even in ad sales and placement.
The Hivewire cat is on sale elsewhere but I think the Millennium Cat (both are Mil Cat) holds up pretty well in IRay and has various breeds included. But no kittens... Am I missing something? Was there ever a kitten for the Millennium Cat? I think the Mil Cat actually looks better than the Hivewire one...
Straight render. I usually do some postwork, but just as a test render, I think this came out OK. I still haven't experimented with LAMH which I guess would add a lot to both cats and dogs...
They're OK but the fur not great. Hopefully the Cat 8 will have better fur & if that's the cast you likely won't see as good a fur made fo MilCats.
I think if the resolution was bumped up in Photoshop and proper bump, SSS & normal maps were made, the fur would look much better of course. But I like the shapes of the Mil Cat better than the Hivewire one, but want a kitten. Although I'm on the fence about Dog 8, I will definitely get Cat 8 if they make one and it looks better than the Hivewire one (which I don't like based on promos, I don't have it.) If Daz makes a Cat 8, I will probably try to make a texture based on photos of my own cat. I suppose I could do that with the Mil Cat, but I'm hoping Cat 8 happens!
