generation 1 and 2 were basically identical, same mesh, but gen 2 had more morph channels.  Gen 2 was really an udate to gen 1.   Stephanie came along at around the same time as V2. and was just known as Stephanie. in the same way that the original David was originall just known as David, but later the 3 was tacked on to make him David 3 in a lot of his add on packs, as he ran alongside M3

Tbf I have never ate fast food and I don't look anything like a Daz model, (somethings are heathiness some things are luck of the genetic draw like height and hormonal acne). Although the one thing I will give really give most cities in terms of healthiness is the ability to walk everywhere. I ate way less heathily in college and still lost weight because I was able to walk everywhere.

To the initial topic the figure in question doesn't feel like the Daz David to me. One of the defining David features to me was always the lack of abs (so while gen2 made me sad I was perfectly satisfied with gen3s Elijah and Lucian which I felt served well as David replacements, particularly Elijah).  But even if he isn't my idea of what the platonic David is it's not like Daz has a monopoly on the name or anything

I'm a big lover of the Davids and Stephanies :) Steph 4 and David 5 were 2 of my favorite Daz figure releases

David always seemed a bit shorter and younger to me, so really, just a few dial spins can do this on even the base G8. I'm just not sure why people rely so strongly on Daz Originals for their characters. There are so many more great PA products including male morph kits so anyone can create their own personal unique "David" however they see him...

David 5 in particular had some nice definition without being overly muscle-y that can be hard to just dial with a few spins - think lanky or bony as a description. The default geneses are more just soft and undefined. I actually found david 5 invaluable as a way to add some difinition to all figures and make them less "soft" looking... Including most of my female characters. There IMO isn't really a main bodymorph that does the same thing, especially with out adding a bunch of muscle/abs as well. Mind you I'm not married to it having to be David, I'm fine with using a figure like Elijah to a similar purpose, or a vendor created character with a sculpt I find that looks sufficiently lanky and detailed

I really preferred original David’s head sculpt. David 5 sculpt I didn’t like.

Seems curious that the old David has such a seemingly devoted fan base, yet apparently didn't sell well enough to support further generations.

I generally assume that if I really like something that it's evidence that it won't be that popular...

DIY morphing was *much* more difficult prior to Genesis. Scaling didn't work so well, and iirc there were nowhere near as many morph packages available. Plus the base figures came with a limited number of morph "channels" and if they were all used, you didn't get much forwarder.

Expression morphs were virtually always on or off presets, not dials, and a good third of the time were designed for a specific character morph, so if you tried to apply them to a different character, you got the original characters'sd face mixed in. (One of the overwheling benefits of the first iteration of GenX was that ported expression morphs all came in as dials and you could finally *mix* them.)

We really did *need* all those different age-related bases to fill in characters of all ages and types. We needed separate bases for Aiko and the Girl. You couldn't really build them from dial spins.

A lot of that need now is artificial. But having the new morph target bases to add to the options does sometimes save a lot of time -- even though one can find oneself spoiled for choice.

There's a group of people called 'Harbingers of Doom' they're used for testing products, they tend to buy stuff that nobody esle wants. It's not a value judgement. The majority should never be a guideline for quality, in my opinion. I always like the TV shows that get cut! "Lost" I hated and couldn't understand why anyone would waste their time on it.

I didn't buy David 5 because, frankly, the promos are terrible! I think that can be applied to a lot of things for me. You often only have the promos to go on. I sometimes don't buy something only to see someone else use it and fall in love with it, then, kick myself for not getting it while it was on sale! Okay, you could say that's a lack of imagination, but sometimes you hate the look of a promo so much you don't even want to spend a second thinking about it.  Such is life! :D

By the way, I think the new Lee is not a patch on the previous versions. Why has he changed so much? I'd really gotten in to using Lee 7 for adding that something to a character which is why I'm back here today buying Lee7 for 8, it will stop me feeling a cheeted. :D
