You know he's not the David 8 you're thinking about, right? He's not a DAZ Original.

fastbike1   is right.   This is not David as in David 8 a full featured new figure which can then be worked on to get Dai junior for David 8 and Daffyd for David 8 etc.  I am  a great fan of the  PA who has made this character, he makes some great characters, but he is a PA, and this is a PA item.  Main figures are always DOs   so you had M8 for Genesis 8 and then Marc for M8  Zander for M8  etc etc.

And the original David was a boy next door type, shorter, leaner, less buff than his Michael counterpart. https://www.daz3d.com/david-3-for-genesis

...Stephanie was originally the same compared to Vicky, more petite, less "leggy" "girl next door" type.  Didn't like the Genesis version as she became a more curvy pinup type figure (there was even a "fashion model" shape).

Brilliant move by the PA in question.  He looks like a 'David'  to me, meaning he generally resembles the official DAZ Davids of generations past.  Is there any material difference between an official DAZ 8 figure and a PA generation 8 figure?  Only in that there isn't a pro bundle I suppose and some variants of the figure, otherwise not a lot of difference that I can spot.  I'm not into generation 8, or else I'd pick him up, looks pretty good to me.

Thank you, everyone, for the kind comments.  However, he is not a DO. :)

I did want him to be more of a guy next door type instead of a model type, someone who could be just about anywhere.

..if someone did a true "Steph Petite" character (though the name cannot be used as there is a Steph8) I'd consider getting her.

the g8m eyelashes are the planes with transmaps.
has anyone successfully made mesh eyelashes?
the kind thing about them making the lash planes separate, leaves room for mesh lashes

There is a great product for eyelashes, which I use all the time... And they are lots of tiny meshes, so yes to your question.

Yes. All my G8 characters come with mesh lashes, and Hellboy's lashes that nicstt linked are amazing.

Mesh lashes are a pita to rig though, but I'm just spoiled on fiber now  :D

I wish there was a David 8. The last one was David 5, who looked completely different from David 3.  Was there a David 4? I don't remember one. They seem to have completely skipped 6, 7, and 8, altogether. My question is, if they've carried Stephanie all the way through, why not her male counterpart, David? David 5 was one of my favorite characters. It seems as if David has been killed off. That's kind of sad.

Stephanie skipped the Genesis 3 treatment as I recall. David only made it to Generation 3 and Genesis 1. The going thing is that "males and their stuff don't sell". That's likely the reason David was left behind.

edit: Actually, Stephanie made her first debut in the very first Vicky and Mike generation (she was actually based on Michael 1's mesh). She skipped version 2 (generation 2), then returned in Generation 3 as Stephanie 3 Petite. She went back to plain old Stephanie for generation 4, Genesis, Genesis 2 and of course, Genesis 8.

The only connection the new David character by Darwin's Mishap has to David 3 or David 5 is the name. Nothing else. It's obvious to me that Daz has no plans to resurrect David either or they would likely have made DM change the name for this character.

In this you have failed in my opinion. Hes a great model, don't get me wrong but i do not see him as a guy next door type. he looks more like the guy you see on a Calvin Klein advertise.

Are you sure? My recollection is that she came out during the 2 stage (which was, of course, essentially a morph expansion for 1).

It really all depend on the environment you live in. I live in a big city in the U.S.and the guy next door to me looks like a Calvin Klein model, LOL

No, Stephanie was there in the very first generation to my memory, although she came out kinda long after Vicky and Mike did (because she was based on Mike). I can't say it for total certainty though because I'm a fallable being, but to my recollection, she was in the very first generation ;).

He looks good but the big visible pores are a turnoff for me. If it was optional I would be fine with it but I dislike the noticible pore on characters.

  • MistaraMistara Posts: 38,675

i tried all day and night yesterday to get those face skin details avec pores to show in carrara.  doh
i can see all the fine detail on his chest, the hairs, the beauty spots
    but not his face details??

on the bright side, i did learn how to setup his layered eyeliner to work smileyyes
dont have to bake makeup layers into the base skin no mores

David5 is a masterpiece.  loooov him

David 8 on par with the D.O. 8s. dont think they could've made a better David8.
only needed 1 pro bundle after allwink

He isn't David 8 though, he is David for Genesis 8 Male. A lot of people may be confused if you call him David 8 as that indicates he is a DO :) He do look amazing though, not seen any Darwin guy I haven't liked though I only own a few so far :)

Do you live in LA? We get more attractive people here because everyone comes here from all over the world to be actors or models. We have the best looking waiters & waitresses in the world LOL! And not everyone can be an actor or model so they branch out into different careers, so even doctors, lawyers, real estate agents, whatever, tend to be more attractive I think than other places.

Nope, Dallas which has similar demographics and where I live and the places I frequent are more trendy and upscale. I always get a kick when forum users talk about the barbie type models we see in DS/poser art and refer to them as not normal, fantasy type women that don't exist when I see actual women that look like that daily in real life, LOL I guess if you live a small, rural city in the middle of nowhere then they would be not normal, fantasy women that don't exist.

Yup. I go to parties where everyone in the room looks like a supermodel because they ARE models (or actors or singers or musicians...) And I don't mean the famous ones, just random party people. Another factor is that it's easy to stay healthy here. There are more Whole Foods stores near me than McDonalds and regular supermarkets carry a ton of health foods.  I believe physical attractiveness is very much linked to overall health, nutrition and staying in shape. If more people ate nutrionally dense foods rather than fast food junk, they'd look more like Daz models too. OK, going off OT soap box...

    David does look great!

According to Wikipedia Stephanie 1 was a morph of Michael 1 and Stephanie 2 was a morph of Victoria 2.
