So I got it figured out. Here's how you get Mixamo animations work with Genesis 8.

    1) Download the desired animation as FBX from mixamo (I used Aiko 6 as fbx avatar)

    2) Open up Daz3D

    3) Import the FBX from mixamo

    4) load up Genesis 1 figure

    5) select the fbx imported avatar and create aniblock from imported fbx animation.

    6) Copy it to genesis 1

    7) delete the fbx import

    8) Bake genesis 1 aniblock to timeline

    9) Save as Pose Preset (make sure to chose Animation Range)

    10) Open a new scene in Daz

    11) Load up Genesis 8

    12) Make sure you have this installed: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/176806/g3f-to-g8f-pose-helper

    13) Apply G3F Pose Helper morph to 100%

    14) Drag the .duf file on top of Genesis 8.

    15) Be happy that you found an easy way to make G8 work with mixamo.

Doesn't help seeing that the link is dead for the most important file!

well I made one as I said, you put it in your drive:\My Library\Data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Male\Morphs\-\Product or the female one, as a pose works on both and it will be a pose parameter like agent unawares one

Ahh sorry - shoulda read your response first.

Try the Agent Unawares Pose utility (see his/her signature above).

Downloading this as well, thanks both of you for your patience with my irritation!

I do use the latest DS beta if that could be a factor

    otherwise

    simply load genesis

    genesis 1

    not 2

use an aniblock and bake it to the timeline

save it under file save as pose animated

    load that on genesis 3

premade genesis poses also work on genesis 3 but hands can be funny

also if you wish for genesis 8, pose it arms up 45° legs in 6° and with the little bowtie icon tool selected, the rigging tool right click in scene edit bake joint rotations and then it too can load those saved duf poses

you need to do this every time you load genesis 8 though, using 3 much simpler

It doesn't work for me, how do you bake the animate to the timeline, everytime I save/reload the animation info is not there!

  • I wish someone would make a short video showing this. One that talks and explains with no music. I'm sorry but I am having trouble getting this to work. Come on @Ivy. I just bought your animation videos and you seem very good at explaining stuff

After you have your aniblock loaded and it is  making your character move/animate, in the animate 2 tab right click choose "bake to studio keyframes"

Follow the instructions in the attached image.

    have fun.

    @wolf

Do you find that you have the infamaous G3 foot sliding when you use this technique? I tried several times and get a lot of feet sliding. I'm wondering if turning off IK has any effect on it. Thanks!

Genesis Starter Essentials - it doesn't have a 1 since there was, at the time, nothing from which to distinguish it.

Sorry to necro -- This works pretty well, but the arms are screwy on the G3 figure and not my G1 animation.

Did anyone else have this issue?

    yes I have

I don't know why, static poses work but animations can be iffy and I think its a tweening issue depending on the joint rotations

iClone 3DX exports work better than converted aniblocks so its something in the animation itself

  • Leonides02Leonides02 Posts: 1,379

Hm. I also havce the issue with Mixamo mocap.

I wonder if it's because the T-pose for G1 is slightly different?

Indeed this likely why this G1-G3 process works so flawlessly  in my pipeline
I am only using Iclone motion data that has been perfectly retargeted to
    G1 in Iclone.
I cant really vouch for  disparate Motion Data applied to G1 from elsewhere

    So  yes YMMV.

I am considering purchasing some Genesis 2 animations (aniBlocks) on Renderosity in the coming weeks, and I am wondering if there is a pose helper add-on that can allow me to convert Genesis 2 animations to the Genesis 3 versions?

I understand that it is a good idea to bake the aniBlock frames to key frames, but I am wondering if it is possible to convert Genesis 2 animations to the Genesis 3 version, with or without the add-on?

Or, would I have to convert Genesis 2 to Genesis 1 first, and then convert the Genesis 1 to Genesis 3?

Also, I tried a Genesis 8 animation on a Genesis 3 figure.  It seems to work no problem.

  • I found a Genesis 2 to Genesis 3 Pose Converter add-on in the DAZ Shop, and it is added to my wishlist.

However, I did find some animations that are for the original Genesis only.  Is there any pose converter add-on for converting Genesis poses to the Genesis 2 versions?

  • WendyLuvsCatzWendyLuvsCatz Posts: 40,024

Why do you want to go to genesis 2 when if baked on genesis 1 it will work out the box on genesis 3?

  • Thanks for clarifying, but I did find this out already since I made my last post in this thread, and I couldn't delete that post for some reason.

I have to admit, I never would have thought Genesis 1 animation would work on Genesis 3 as well.  Though from what I gather, I assumed Genesis 1 animations would not work on Genesis 2.

they work on 2 as well

2 won't work on 3 or Micheal, Victoria 1,2,3,4 etc but all of those work on genesis with some foot adjustment needed

G1 will work on G2 but I find it useful & better to use the DAZ store animation converter to go from G2 to G3.  Then with G3, fix the T-pose and you can go to G8.

For me step 5 was a failure.  I mean it worked by it introduced some pretty nasty foot-sliding all over the place.  It's pretty much unusable for me.
