For those who protest Skimpware(tm) armor... a word please...

RKane_1RKane_1 Posts: 3,039

I, too, am tired of female armor sets coming with bare -mid riffs (midrifts, midr.... you get it) or showing cleavage, the one area over the heart that needs to be MOST proteced going unarmored? For those that PROTEST this as much as I do, I want to draw your attention to this wonderful new piece from Val3DArt. Sensible armor for a female with no bare spots to show off body parts that should be protected. I am out of money at the moment but it goes on my list to buy and I hope many of you follow suit ansd buy it too. :)

And yet it still has high heels and gaps at the upper thigh (thigh high "boots".

I just dress her in the male armor assuming there is some and dial down the chest.

  • Yeah, I thought that was good, until I realized it was just a tunic dress and high-heeled boots.

Egads! I was so overjoyed at no cleavage and no bare mid riff (mid rift, midr... you get it) I did not see that she was in heels! GAH! WHY, GOD WHY!?!?!?

  • RKane_1RKane_1 Posts: 3,039

Oh well.... I will skip it now. I wish I had seen that before advertising for it, essentially.

Was wondering if this was satire. ;p It's a great looking product, but a chainmail miniskirt with thigh high boots and stiletto heels didn't seem to support the point you were making.

  • TooncesToonces Posts: 919

Are we sure female knights didn't wear heels? To be fair, none of us were alive during the Middle Ages.

  • I just noticed the heels myself. Thats too bad.

  • RKane_1RKane_1 Posts: 3,039

I have a trigger happy tongue... err... keyboard typing fingers.

I saw the top and didn't see the gap that the skirt could EASILY cover for protection and the fact it was HIGH HEELS!?!? I have no problem that the boots are thigh high as that is coverage and protection if a bit impractical. I missed out on the very valid points you guys were making. I wanted to sing high praise to the heavens for what I THOUGHT was sensible and good looking but then .... I feel so betrayed. *chuckle*

Thinking I will get this and add some chain mail pants and substitute some practical boots.  Maybe make the skirt a bit longer....  I like the thigh and shin protectors.

    Damn heels!  Looks nice otherwise...

This armor is very shiny... but it's full coverage at least, and no high heels.  Also, no valley betwen the breasts (for that one guy that cares about that...)

Yeah. but the armor should be practical out of the box. Let those who thirst for idot armor work at adapting it once it's out.

Highly impractical helmet but it's going in the right direction. :)

Least you're getting some outfits you can use, that's more than I can say. The last 'true' skimpwear I bought was Aeon Soul's Fantasy Ornaments for Genesis 2. I don't know what brought about DAZ's about-face on selling classic fantasy skimpwear, but the lack of it has played a huge role in both my spending almost nothing on 3D over the past two years and my loss of interest in making anything new.

There are still a large number of artists who want to make that sort of silly, sexy fantasy art - probably far more than those who need university wear or 50's starlet dresses.

I would reallly like to see some armor sets that were basically kits that would allow you to use it as either practical or skimpware, or variations in between, maybe with options for male and female warriors (and non-humans?).  A few extra pieces, a not-high-heel option, etc.  Or maybe there could be add-on sets.

Cortex:  many thanks for the excellent list of better-coverage armor!

I do like (and have) the Lux Lucius and Gentle Paladin sets, and plan to pick up the Angel Armor.   For some projects, skimpware is required.  But for projects with practical warriors, practical armor is needed.   At least now there is a range of practical and semi-practical, enough to kit-bash, particularly if you add some of the male armor pieces.   I am thinking about how I could use the Kadis armor as an add-on for some other sets.  Looks really cool.

It is possible. maybe not the middle ages though. This article actually says high heels were created for men in the 1590's to stableize on horses so they can shoot their weapons.

It's interesting also , I seen images of politictions from the 1700's wearing high heels. Interesting. It use to be a dude thing.

I saw an excellent render (forget where I saw it) a while back of a fierce female warrior charging full tilt across the desert sands.....in high heels....

That's an excellent looking product and I would definitely buy if I needed a female barbarian. I'm personally looking for more of the 'pasty'-like Frazetta-ish wear that was common in classic Conan and 70s-90s fantasy art. I know it's not everyone's style, but there are times when we need purely decorative fantasy clothing for characters like slaves, demonesses (in my case), princesses, etc.

I still use Gareee's V4 Martian Princess outfit to this day because the top was customizable and parts could be hidden to create different looks. Like Greymom said, having options for outfits might be able to please many more people. Including decorative trim on armor that could double as skimpy decorative covering when the main armor piece is hidden would really be beneficial and raise the appeal of the product.

edit: My requests for skimpwear armor also applies to men. Until fairly recently, we didn't have a whole lot of purely beefcake barbarian wear with just a big belt and loincloth.

If you are looking for 'Frazetta style' skimpwear, besides what's here, there's some stuff over at Rendo.  They are a little less prudish when it comes to costumes than the Daz store is...

  • SnowSultanSnowSultan Posts: 3,790

I check Rendo every day, nearly everything they put out that I might be interested in is either for V4 or it's of less-than-stellar quality. I may complain about some things around here, but I am still a fervant supporter of DAZ because of their quality and of course, the guaranteed compatibility with Studio.

I've seen photographs from the Middle Ages in which women were clearly wearing high heels.

I liked Val3DArt's outfit because I'm just going to use the chainmail minidress and hide all the belts and armor bits. Cosplay as clubwear.

"I've seen photographs from the Middle Ages"

    Time-travelling photojournalist?

  • I did a lot of research before I did my armor, and I know this isn't the proper way to spell armor!. In those days they didn't fight in fancy armor. All it was used for was "show" they sat on a horse and looked pretty and couldn't move, even if they wanted to. The skirt on my armor couldn't be done or worn as metal can't bend, hanse the word fantasy armor. Chainmail was useless to if you fell off the horse it was game over, try fighting in something that heavy you be lucky to last 10min and arrow cut through it like butter. I hate to say it the skimpwear would have been a better option as the more mobile you were the better your chances!

    Feel free to disagree :)

Canon has a new Retroscopic Telephoto lens (with Temporal Image Stabilization).  The concept was first descibed in "Tom Swift and his Electronic Retroscope".  : )

So Aeon Soul's new Exquisite Ornaments doesn't work for you? https://www.daz3d.com/exquisite-ornaments-outfit-for-genesis-8-females (Those are, admittedly, slightly larger pasties and panty, compared to Classic Fantasy and Fantasy Ornaments.)

I guess that this is a joke, but for anyone who takes it seriously, it's actually possible to do cartwheels in armor.
