OK, I'm exhausted and I'm hoping someone can help.

Either my googling skills are awful or there just isn't this kind of pipeline and I'm totally out of my depth....

Let me start from the beginning.

I'm very (I mean very new to 3D animation/modelling) I started about 6 weeks ago using the reallusion software becuase of it's easy to use real time animation. I'm pretty happy with my results in their software and easy avatar modellling, however being a graphics magpie kept seeing DAZ Studio Genesis 8 characters pop up which look georgeous and wanted to see if I could emulate the character with clothing in iClone.

Now onto my problem:

I'm happy getting the genesis character into iClone which is actually quite strait forward, however I have a YT channel (no plug intended) and I wanted to create some very specific clothing to match the storyline. I donwloaded Marvelous Designer on the 30 day free trial to see if I could get it to work and I could! However...I'm completely at a loss as to understand how to conform my clothing to the character (I'm using the Michael 8 HD as my avatar)

I've watched and read hours, actually...practically 2 days, worth of video and tutorials to explain this but alas I think either my brain has been completely frazzled or I'm missing something.

I've been able to use the transfer utility as per this instruction: http://www.versluis.com/2015/03/how-to-turn-a-3d-object-into-conforming-clothing-in-daz-studio/, but now I understand after reading that another programme such as ZBrush is required to get the clothing to conform correctly. (FYI I've attached a screen shot of my output from my excercise but I suspect you get my problem...)

I would GREATLY appreciate any person who is willing to give me any guidance they can :-)

Many thanks in advance, Laura

If you think you are exhausted now, you ain't seen nothing yet, LOL.First off, zbrush isn't required for anything, it's just a tool for modeling, the rigging takes place inside DS. The transfer utility will give you basic rigging, but it's my understanding you will need to manually work with weight maps and the joints for a quality rig.

You could try one of the many tutorials in the store for rigging

that looks like a scaling issue. its a very easy mistake to make. Your figure needs to be at a scale of 100% before you export it. However as FSMC has said, I would consider revisiting some guides as the step by step process you need is pretty specific. However, I never used any of the ones on the store, there are plenty of free guides that explain the process.

I've been using MD and daz for years and even I forget steps time to time. But your image really looks like a scaling issue, not actually a rigging issue. So you don't need the advanced rigging guides right now.

  • *sigh* ok, no easy answer then lol. Thank you both. I'll look at the scaling first then hit the tutorials if that doesn't work :-)

  • You need to model on the base figure-- Genesis 8. Otherwise the transfer utility is going to be trying to rig your shirt to Genesis 8's shape while you modeled it for the Michael morph. If you do model it on Michael, then the shape on your source item needs to be Current, not Default, and you need to Reverse Deformations in the advanced options. Start there.

  • OMG I didn't refresh the page and i'vce just come back to update! Yep, figured it out. It's becuase i'm such a noob and used the Michael character as ChanglingChick has said...oh well haha! Thank you all for you're help. I'll also post this link to rigging which I found very helpful in case anyone else ends up looking at this thread:
