IRay is using Shared memory as vRam!?

So, I was noticing yesterday, that In my one scene I was currently over by about 4gbs of required texture memory for a total 12gbs. However the scene was still rendering just fine without issues on my two gtx 1080sc (8gbs vRAM per card.) I noticed however my computers performence was awful. And I mean awful, I hadn't experienced this type of performence before while rendering. In fact, it was reminding me of how a computer acts when its out of regular RAM, or running out. The cursor was freezing, and what not, and everything was reaaal slow. But the render was still rendering away! So I ended up checking out my computers used resources and in fact my System RAM was at 99%-100% on and off, and CPU was 23%. Daz was using about 18% of my CPU, and about 15-16gbs of my sys RAM. I then went and checked my GPU overclocking software, and in fact they were both maxed out 2040-2056mhz with 8079mbs used on both. It greatly confused me as I have read, and been told everywhere that IRay is Vram only. So just for kicks, I went out and purchased another 16gbs of RAM and tossed it in my computer, and decided to double everything that was in that current scene. I now had 10 Genesis 8 characters and about 20 (enviorment objects like walls and decor.) I for-sure thought my computer was just going to crash, or drivers would crash, and I'd be looking at a black screen until I restarted my computer, OR it would switch to CPU rendering. Render info menu pops up. Says I'm at 21gbs for Device 0 and 1. And then it starts doing some iterations... I check my sys RAM usage its at 80% (with the 32gbs) now with about 24gbs used... I'm extremely confused here. Cuz from what I can tell some of these numbers don't even add up.
Does IRay have a Shared Memory option? If not then how am I able to render these scenes with my GPUs?
If this is some sort of bug tho... I am never changing my Driver and Daz version lol

The log did show that Iray used the GPUs through to the end? Memory will still show as used even if the limit is passed. Also note that the texture memory use given in the log ignors compression, as far as we can tell, so if thats ays there's more than 8GB it doesn't actually mean it won't fit once compressed.
Yes to 500 Iterations which is what It was set to. As far as compression goes, I think mine is set to 512-768? or something along that line, Can't check at this moment, in the middle of a lengthy render :P

Sure you don't have GPU + CPU selected for rendering?
100% certain. CPU rendering turned on makes renders 10% the speed of my GPU rendering. There is an extremely noticable difference between the two in render times.

I don't think you understood my question. Nevertheless Iray doesn't use shared memory as Vram. If it did, no one would be complaining about renders dropping to CPU only.
Hmmm, the way I understood the question was you were thinking I had CPU and Both my GPUs checked off under Render Settings>Advanced. Which I don't. Cuz if I did then two iterations would be done with the GPUs quickly, then they would be waiting for the iteration by CPU to be completed before moving to the next, which would cause the total rendering time to increase by (at the very) least 40%. Also the logs do not regonize the CPU as a rendering option, nor does it come up at any point during the render(or falling back to the CPU.) I've sense tested at a very higher iteration aswell rendering 3x the quality of an image to about 3000 iterations, and it didn't fall back to the CPU. So I believe its safe to say that the CPU isn't being used for the iteration rendering process. Also, as mentioned in the original post, DAZ is only using about 18% of the my proccessor during the rendering proccess.
However, I do apoligize if I have missunderstood your question, if I did could you clarify?
PS: Awhile back I had a CPU falling back issue, which I've sense resolved. It was because Optix Prime Acceleration was enabled. And that setting isn't correctly compatible with GTX 10XX series. So it would render the first frame and then fall back to CPU. Since then I haven't had another CPU incident with DAZStudios.
Maybe some other program that use CUDA can change the behaviour of IRay. I use my laptop for rendering since I am just an amateur. The video card is a GTX960M with 2GB vRam so most of my scene can only render by CPU. But today I tried to render a large scene while I was working with MATLAB, and I noticed that the GPU is also full loaded. Then I did some test and found that IRay can use GPU when MATLAB is running, but will fallback to CPU if MATLAB is turned off.
