Oldies but still goodies

I ran across an old image using Arki's Orchid dress for I think v3 MFD and thought I'd try to see what Gen8 MFD would look like. It was so old I had to go clear back to V3's trunk hidden way back in the virtual attic to find it.

I'm surprised how well it looks with no IRay adjustments to the texture. No post work done on the texture.

I have one or two others I will post later but invite anyone with an oldy but goody to post theirs.

  • Hi,

Did you add the Iray base shader? It does look really good.

No Iray base shader. This is straight out of the box so to speak.

I wanted to post and image of something that Fabiana sold waaay back in 2006 I think and sold it on a site that long ago went belly up. It is for A3 and I'm not smart eough to fit it to any thing in the genesis 8 or 3 figures. but still I want you to have a look and maybe Fabi will relent and make this simple thing a dForce product for these later Genesis figures. And while she's at it maybe revisit HiddenWinds.

If there is no Iray shader, the Iray Uber Base shader will be applied automatically when you render. But you have to apply it manually if you want to make adjustments to it, before rendering.

Now see you learn something every day. . .  I thought it looked too good to be just run of the mill ten year old way back when textures.

Something I've noticed occasionally — some older Poser materials auto-convert into Iray with better results than more recent D|S 3Delight materials. And when tweaks are needed, it doesn't take as long to approach good final renders.

Really? I've been messing with converting V4 to Iray and notice a big difference when I manually convert to Iray Uber. I'm assuming that the auto conversion doesn't change the surfaces.

Richard Hazeltine said so somewhere, so I assume it's correct. Whether it's just a generic shader or it somewhat adjusts to what it's being applied to I don't know.

I always use a converter for characters if there is one. Usually this one for V4, it's pretty good IMO. I think there are others as well.

Yes, I've noticed too that Poser materials generally seem to auto-convert with surprisingly good results.

Kewel, thanks!  I'm using Anagenesis II to see how that works.

Anagenessis is very good too, yes, but there are characters it doesn't work so well with. The Genesis version also works for generation 4 figures which is a great feature.

Yeah, I'm converting some really cool V4 items from Runtime DNA to Iray using Anagenesis.

I'd really love it if she updated the Cupertina hood for dForce, too. I'm sure the original would work decently with it, but having 100% guaranteed compatibility would be excellent.

I just found a freebie Mika 7 and coupled with my new "wear them all stuff" I decided to dress her up in that Dryad outfit. Too bad this simple thing is long gone from anywhere so my Mika is the only Dryad in the forest with it. Nyah, nyah nyah.

Found this V4 character and outfit for $1 each in the V4/M4 sale. Converted to Iray it looks pretty good.
