3Ds Max to DAZ STUDIO 4

Hello everyone, and thank you for reading this,

I am 3D modeler artist using mostly 3DS Max concerning my projects for hobbie or proffessional artwork. However, I'd also like to be offering some of my models to the 3D artists who consider using Daz studio more regularly. But I've been wondering, through what kind of procedure should I do for to make my models be transfered unchanged from one software to the other as much as possible. Are there any setting that I should specify? How should I save the textures folder's so that they can be used as general "mat files" that can instantly apply the textures? What else should I have in mind?

You would need to make your items in Poser Format, CR2 for movable figures, PP2 for Props, and PZ2 for MATerial Poses. Nobody really wants OBJ models, even with textures. You would need to at least import them to DS4.5, and export in a usable format.

MAX shaders wont work of course, in either DS or Poser, and 3DS Max rigging wont work either. Poser 9 and Poser 2012 use a new wight mapped rigging which is different to the DS triax wight mapped rigging, and there is a DSON importer for Poser so that Poser users can now use the DAZ 3D Genesis figure.

What kind of modelling were you wanting to use inside DAZ Studio?

The joy of converting a model from one program to another...

Been there, done that - http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/491/ - none of them are mine though.

At the top of that thread listed above, I have a tutorial about converting models from one app to another. Its limited as I do not know a whole lot about 3DSM or LW or any other app listed there and I have learned more since then.

What you need to learn is dependant on what you plan to do. If you are interested in making clothing for the Genesis figure then you will need to learn how to rig for Genesis and all the ins and outs related to that. For that you will want these two tutorials - http://www.daz3d.com/rigging-original-figures-in-ds4-pro & http://www.daz3d.com/advanced-rigging-in-daz-studio-4-pro

If you are more interested in making your content compatable with both DS and Poser, then please check out my other tutorial here - http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/5436/ - at least to get you started. There are some old video tuts on rigging a poser compatible figure in DS3 here - https://www.youtube.com/user/rbtwhiz - That is older then Blondies tutorials and certain tools and options in DS4 are different than DS3.

Well at first base, I am mostly interested into importing props into the DAZ STUDIO software and get more experienced. However I will also create objects that might as well as include some ringing, or some morphing targets, or other movable parts attached upon them. For example, I could model a turret, or a gun. Those models include surfaces which will be movable. Not that any ringing is necessary, but, still movable. Would you believe I should rig instead? Is just putting archor points and translation limits enough?

Let's focus about simple, or average props for the time being. What should I know?
