What kind of effect may/will this have on DAZ Studio? If any?

I have no idea, but I kinda doubt they have a team of programmers sitting there just waiting for this update, ready to pounce. As I recall they're maybe a year behind the latest NVIDIA updates with the new beta D|S, so.....

Iray is generally up-to-date, I beleive - certainly recently when they were wanting to add support for Pascal chips. I can't, however, believe they would want to add depenencies on a newer version of OpenGL than necessary, given the wide range of hardware in use.

I do think they look at it though as DAZ studio never rendered in wireframe in OpenGL until later builds.

    A very welcome addition.

I wish they could toss in shadows too even if very low blurry map sizes, for very basic animation it would be useful and a basis for post work with cartoon type filters in Hitfilm etc.

I suspect DAZ have purposely kept the OpenGL requirement low (at 1.6) to allow Studio to run on the most systems.

But even with that they could have done a bit more. Some of us remember the Truespace renderer which was entirely OpenGL.

Meanwhile I got this mail from Maxon yesterday. The video is not Iray, or ProRender just 'Enhanced OpenGL' on the standard viewport!

I did notice in Studio's drop down that the render modes are 'Basic OpenGL' and 'Intermediate OpenGL', does that mean there were/are plans for 'Enhanced OpenGL'?

Wireframe - and the other modes - have been theer from the outset as far as I recall. Iray has been added of course, but other than enhnacements to Texture Shaded, I don't think there have been any additions.

well I definitely recall a time in which it did not and a discussion about workarounds

was a few years ago admittedly

on the old forum so no hope of finding

  • Ah, rendering - sorry, I thought you meant preview.
