...discovered one downside of living in the city, cars, lots of then, often commanded by impatient or mouth breathing motorists, particularly after 5:00PM
Took an extended walk today to get moving more in an attempt to relieve the stiffness I still am experiencing. Nice day, sunny, low 80s. Early on traffic was light, and motorists would stop at crosswalks to let me cross. Stopped off for a couple pints at the pub and to sit in the sun, then picked up a few items at the market before heading home. Suddenly it seemed one could not cross a street, even at a marked crosswalk, without risking life and limb. Cars were everywhere at times seemingly coming out of nowhere, bearing down on me at intersections, crosswalks, and driveways. At one street I had to wait a several minutes as the stream of traffic never seemed to end and even when the light a few blocks further up changed red, cars would block the crosswalk leaving little room between each other to get around them, particularly for someone like myself who is still dealing with pain and stiffness.
Now I do understand the desire to get home after a hectic day at work, I dealt with it for decades, particularly the last job I worked in. However, is stopping for an extra ten to fifteen seconds to allow someone who "commutes" by walking to cross a street that much of an inconvenience? So not looking forward to having to deal with this when the rainy season hits.
Complaint: Went to the doctor a few days ago. Everything mostly OK or at least not worse, but while there I got a flu shot. And wouldn't you know it, I got the flu!
Happens everytime I get a flu shot. Aches, pains, lethargy, loss of weight, general ugness. The only solice is that I may not get a really bad case of the flu later on in the season. But upon reflection, even when I didn't get flu shots I never got a flu much worse that the one the flu shot gives me.
PS: I don't mind the loss of weight symptom. It makes me think I'm making progress. But then I get well and it all comes right back.
I never get the flu shots. I get sick once every three or four years. As far as losing weight...that's the problem, you always find it again. Instead, you need to throw away weight!

I've found where I live that even waiting 3 seconds has gotten to be too much for most people. It drives me crazy. I can be driving along and a car wants to pull into my lane. There's no one behind me, and I'm going along at a good clip. Do they wait the 3 seconds it would take for me to go by and then safely pull onto the street? Nope. Every time they pull out in front of me and make me smack my brakes so they can 'be ahead'. Three lousy seconds and no one EVER can wait that long for safety-sake. There's a real closed, self-absorbed mentallity these days that everyone has to be 'ahead' of everyone else.
Honestly, the flow of traffic is whatever it is. Aggressively lane-hopping puts everyone at risks and only gains you about 5 seconds on your trip. People are nuts.
...makes me wish for the development of a system in the cyber future RPG I am involved with. In cities and on major highways, there is a function called Gridlink which manages all vehicular movement. Once tied in the driver can sit back and enjoy the ride (all vehicles have autonomous piloting as well which iin RL is already under development). When in areas where Gridlink is present one is required to be tied into it or risk hefty fines.
While the leadfoots/Fast and Furious crowd would cry foul, it would make the streets so much safer for everyone, motorists, cyclists and pedestrians combined.
...speaking of language, interesting article on the BBC this morning about what "Americanisms" are doing to the "parent" tounge.

how come when a dude wears a wig, it's a 2pay ?
I ordered a new PS/2 mouse for my computer. It should arrive soon.
Yeah, like dialects such as cockney are so much more standard, me bruver.
And as for one example given in the article, I seem to recall a certain parrot which had "passed on" back in the 1960's.
Because you have 2pay for it.
I think I'm going to get a subscription to Piants magazine. Even though, after currency conversion, it will cost about $10 more per year (6 issues) to have it mailed to me, I'll at least get it when it's released instead of the 3-month delay to cross the pond, and I won't have to drive half an hour to the nearest bookstore that carries it. That should make up for the extra money.
Skin builder is still building my skin I think. It says skin builder is busy with task. I want to test out my skin but I do not know what to do.
I just realized that this October has a Friday the 13th.
Spooky cool!
I just realized it is almost impossible to read my calendar without the lights on at night.

Morning. First rosebuds of new spring is a welcome sight, right on cue :)
we haz pwnd all your hot today :0
It's like Christmas. It gets earlier and earlier each year until you unknowingly go frantically shopping twice in a year. Much to the delight of the stores.
Last year I avoided getting a flu shot until way after my birthday and I was miserable around Christmas. This year my doctor nagged me nicely and promised that my insurance would cover it so I got it done way before my birthday. But I guess it's close enough to October to fit in with my automobile annual fees like license registration and inspection. So, perhaps October is my new official month to get painful annual things done.
Oh, and Tjohn, thanks for the card. Is that bean soup or mustard soup?
Worse than that, I believe that lane jumping actually has the reverse effect on the traffic. It tends to slow the lane down. There must be some scientific explanation for this...I think I've heard it once. It's almost the same as when you change lanes in the market or department store...the one you get into was going fast...but as soon as you get into it, it slows down and the lane you were in suddenly speeds along.

I saw something along those lines years ago on TLC, I believe it was. There were computerized systems, with markers or something in the lanes. Cars' speed would be controlled by the system. They could move along at 100mph, only a couple of feet from one another, and no problems. But, for such a system, there would need to be a major overhall of our roadways, and I don't believe the "ruling party" would agree to that. Nor would the speed junkies. It was experimental, but it was a working system. And this was probably more than 15 years ago.

It got at least up to 79F here today...not bad. And I'm in Massachusetts. Misty is further south.
Of course, right now it's only 60F.

Wonder if there are more Friday 13's in the gregorian calendar than there are in the 19-year one ? Don't even know how to start working that out :)
